33's on '99 hilux

Post by HiluxDave »

i got a ifs 99 3.0d hilux with a 2" suspension lift.

currently got 31x10.5 Cooper ST's.

Just wondering what mods, if any i have to make to bung a set of 33's in the same pattern under it.

I know i have to get my speedo calibrated and my tire placard changed but what do i have to do mechanically to make all of this work like they are meant to be on there.

I have heard something about moving my diffs and cutting guards etc???????????????????

Any help appreciated.

Regards Dave.

You may get away with just taking a big hammer to the seam on your firewall in your front guards. You will also have to lose your front mudflaps.
But you may have to do a 1-2" bodylift to get tyre clearance.
To bring your gearing back to standard you can change your diff gear ratios. Not an essential thing it will just feel a bit sluggish and your speedo will be out if you dont.
I had 33s on my '97 lux now I am going to squeeze in 35s with a bit of trimming :)

Mines a 98
I am running 33/12.5/15 with 2" suspension and 2" body. They will not fit without both.

You will need to use rims with a cruiser offset, and they will come out just past the flares. You will also need to remove the front mud flaps.

33's on '99 Hilux

HiluxDave,

What engine are you running mate?
I got 265/75x16's on my 2003 V6 Hilux and I find that they have made the truck pretty sluggish off the line, I couldnt imagine getting 33's on my truck without changing diff ratios, it wouldnt get off the line without frying the clutch! but then how practicle would it be to drive on the freeway? Wouldnt it rev hard at 100kph?

bigger diamater will make the revs drop at any given speed mate not increase them. That's why its sluggish off the line.

smaller diamater will up the revs

If thats the case why is my Feroza revving at 3800rpm at 100km with 30s on it? They come with 27s stock and all the other Feroza guys have much lower cruising rpms at 100.

Dunno whats going on now if what you said is true !

My lux had about 1" suspension and a bit over 1.5" (40mm) body and cleared 33s fine.

Have you checked your speedo? Bigger tyres will still show the same revs per speed on the gauges but in reallity you are going faster than the speedo tells you.

You're still in 4th?

Larger tires makes you go faster at the same revs. Think about it. The tire is bigger. You go further with each spin but it's harder to spin. Thus you accelarate slower because your revs are lower at the same speed.

Your feroza might have had diff/gearbox alterations if your revs are that high at 100 whereas your friends revs are lower. Either that or some adjustment has been made which put your tacho out.

Post by brad 93hilux »

Hey guys i have a 93 hilux and have bought 33/12.5 cooper stt, will a 3" suspension lift be ok or do you still need body lift.

I am trying to keep away from body lift coz then i have to lift the rails and bullbar....

Thanks brad
