Does any body know if Norm Walters is defending his title. Hope so. And what about Kym Bolton is he driving his truck this year. I heard Kym Bolton has put the hydrolic aside and is running a highmount also has 300KW out of his diesel. Dont know if that is flywheel or what. Hope to see them both there competing.

LudaCris
Cris,
Wormy will be there this year. Apparently its the first time an OBC winner has gone back to defend his title. Rumour has it he's running a little bit of octane booster, will be interesting to see what is left of his truck this year.

Kym has gone back to electric winch and yes his engine dynoed at 295kw (flywheel).

How about the rumour Laurie Sternbeck is running a Lexus V8 in his rig now.

Thanks GQ TROLL for the confirmation. That is a lot of power out of a 4.2 Diesel motor. Good luck to all.

I'll shoot the organisers an email now. I'm not holding my breath for a quick reply but.

last time I tried to get a reply I had to use a fair bit of attitude to try and get them to retaliate to what I had written.

I'll keep you posted on what I find out.

Cheers.

I would thaink that motorbikes will be not allowed. On most viewable stages, the spectators park close to the action with only a short walk to see the action. Each SS prolly has a dedicated spectator viewing area. Bikes would only lead you to get in the way.

Right.....

I haven't received a reply from the organisers yet and i doubt that I will....

BUT.......

The reason why I brought this up was because on one of the DVD's that i was watching, there were some blokes kitted up in their moto gear and there were bikes parked at nearly every stage.

Anyway, we'll see what come of it.

Yepp, I just received a reply from the organisers.

They stated that the marshals on some stages were on bikes and the general public aren't allowed to ride them at the comp sites.

Pretty much, we shouldn't bother taking them.

Ahh well, it was worth a try.

The spectator camp is prolly the go located just before Silverton. I'll be leaving my camper there all week and using it when we return there during the week. I'm led to believe there is a care taker there and that spectators will be there most nights.

I'll be arriving Friday evening and prolly staying at Broken Hill CP in a van a friend has booked or setting up the camper at the Spectator camp at Silverton.
Either the caravan park or the spectator camp will have people socialising but I believe the West Darling Pub in town is where the official shin-dig is being held. I'm taking my boy, so wont be at the pub, but can assure you after 11(ish) hours in the car, will be enjoying a beer where I decide to stay.

After co-driving in the 2001 and 2002 OBC and spectating at the 2003 Challenge I haven't been able to make it back due to a driver who lost interest :bad-words: and my wife having our first baby in May last year.

But at very short notice I've picked up a co-drivers spot with Adrian Cauchi in the Kurmit Rangie trayback  Unfortunately his navvy injured himself and had to withdraw :bad-words:

Was at his workshop last night starting to set up my side of the vehicle and finishing everything else off. Haven't had the long build up and waiting for May to come around like previous years but I'm pumped and looking forward to the event and the socialising

Here's a pic of the vehicle I competed in in 2001/02.

Sadly our team will not be competing in this years event. I would like to once again thank my sponsors and supporters for their assistance and will inform those that i have not asap. My mentality to not do things by halves has rendered my truck over engineered in all aspects yet there are some areas left undone. The desision was made to pull the pin early this week. To enter an event like the outback without appropriate testing would not be doing ourselves or our supporters justice. Rog and I have given it our all of late, including taking excessive time off work and working till 2am most nights. The only thing left untouched in the entire vehicle is the gearbox if that is any indication of the work we have completed. See chevy smurf under menbers. we will be at the XI as well as the local winch series and will transfer the money for obc untill next year.

I wish everybody the best of luck in this years event.

I hope to catch up with everyone soon, and look forward to giving the event a thorough go next year.

I also thank Bingham and chris for planning their leave around our race and understand how difficult it is to get time off.

cheers bru
