do they make a stronger cv(or eliminators) for an mq?
what can i do to help stop breaking cv's?
and dont dare say buy a toyota id rather break cv's than everything else!

no idea if anyone makes stronger ones, just get a supply from wreckers and practice changing them on the trail, should be able to get it down to about 10 - 15 minutes
I disagree on both counts.
The CV's are spindly little 29 spline things, while the inners have a decent diameter (although they still neck down at the spline) and the centre is a pretty respectable chunk of steel with an 8" ring gear.. not too bad...
I can't imagine being able to swap a Nissan CV in 15 minutes unless it had the GU grub screw lockwasher thingie.. The older ones are pretty agricultural
cv's
shows what he knows ! i can do an mq cv in about 20 mins but its a pain in the butt in the middle of the bush. guess i'll just have to keep doing it.dumbdunce wrote:shows what I know about nissans, eh?
I've never pulled an MQ CV, how would you say it compares with doing a landcruiser one?
cv
it's normally the bell that breaks. i took my front locker out (a lockrite probably the last one in captivity) and that has improved things a bit but i still bust them occasionally.

Cool... That's a pretty good effort.
There also seems to be two different types of end collar on the nissan stuff, with two different internal machining patterns in the knuckle to suit. One size lets you get a tractor replacements style socket onto the lock nuts, and gives you plenty of room to get a big screwdriver in to lever the lock washer forward. The other type leaves an internal diameter about 4-5mm too small for for the socket and makes it fawkin difficult to get the lockwasher bent forward.
yeah I can do cruiser ones in about 15 - 20 minutes, depending on if the brakes need disconnecting/bleeding - some do, some don't. also if the bell is cracked but not broken into pieces, it can be difficult to get out.
I've never busted a CV with the front locked, did one many yonks ago with open front diff though. I reckon it's the awesome non power of the 2.4 that does it.
