TPS function

I have to utilise the throttle position sensor from the Patrol carby, in my engine swap.... a few people are of the opinion that i can use it like a dial in set up to fool the gear box as to how much throttle i am using... so it will short shift for traffic or fuel economy, or wind it up so it thinks i'm under a bit of acceleration for the fun events like mud drags and shit like that. Anybody heard of it being done? or does the TPS actually work that way? If i can, i'm going to mount it on the dash, or behind it and put a dial on the front.

I think (don't actually know) that doing it that way would bring up error codes and stuff. would think the computer would be looking for varying voltages and rates of change. You might be better off putting a second trim pot accross the original and dash mounting this. This would be an adjustable bias type setup.

the TPS for the trans doesn't hook into the engine computer..... it has the one from the V8 throttle body already. But the trans has it's own ECU, and what people are saying is that by manipulating the TPS, i can fool the transmission. But if the TPS is incrimental, it will be harder to get the right spot for good gear changes, if it's just idle/low acceleration/high acceleration, it will be a piece of piss to do.... but my experience with Nissans is limited, as is my experience with electronic gear boxes.

from experience with the current auto..... it doesn't hold gears unless you have your foot planted to the floor...... otherwise it generally changes gears fairly quickly.

Slot the mounting and rotate ???? (check the tps has the travel range first)

Nissan tps does not have a progressive sweep it has 3 stages that is why the trans does not have much shift pattern change unless you have it pegged.

Thank you!! thats all i needed to know. Saves me a crap load of fabbing it into the acceleration set up.... i might just try it as a remote set up before i permanently fix it somewhere

what about just buying a full manual shift valve body and don't worry about electrics at all then you can set your own shift pattern.

Most likely all it manages is kickdown when you put your foot to the floor.

i would like to...... but i would have to buy the GU shift body so i can do the manual torque converter lock up, and thats about a grand fitted.
