koni valve rates?

Post by uninformed »

i have koni 80 series fronts (82 2385) and am looking at getting the koni nissan rears (converted to eye/pin).

i have a 110 def ute

will the stock valving on these suit my truck or do they need to be re valved???

has anyone priced the bilstien 7100 short body remote resivour in oz??

any idea how much the front tower has to be raised to use the 80 series fronts??? i think rick130 said only about 7mm????

does the rear shock mount have to be raised

thanks for any help

15-20mm would be safer on the tower, unless you cheat as I did and use thinner bushes on the body side at both ends.
I've reduced the bump valving a little on the fronts, but it was OK as was, just a little harsh on really bad roads at speed. I can give you the foot valve # if you need it, but I'd try them as supplied first.

Are you talking about GU coil rears ? if so, I'd try them as is first. We are using them on the back of our GU ute, they are only wound up half way and control the back of it very well, regardless of load, surface and there is no pitch at all when towing.

Hmmm, maybe I should make some pin/eye mounts tomorrow and 'borrow' the Patrol rears. I wonder if SWMBO would notice.......

after speaking with Marco at toperformance Koni, we've come across a mercedes truck (front) shock that has about 12 inch of travel, slightly less/softer compression and the same rebound as there defender replacements... THIS IS AN OPTION FOR THE REAR OF LR'S

specs: model # 88-1262sp2
open: 780mm
compressed: 472mm
$483/pair

these are eye to eye, koni will cut the bottom eye off and weld on a pin for $40/shock

next time you're talking to Marco or Ric at Toperformance, can you ask open/closed lengths on a 90-5401, please ?
This is the 70mm body/42mm piston Defender 110/130 rear off road race shock. It's a straight bolt in. Jeff at Proven Products emailed me twelve months ago when it was annouced, but he didn't have any dimensions at that stage.
The only spec I have on it is that it is for raised suspension, must be greater than 33mm, up to 55mm.

you don't have to cut off the top eye, just use d2 towers.
you can also use d2 turrett rings as these have a rubber seat fot the coil spring that improves NVH greatly.

shocks

i have a 2 - 2 1/2" spring lift and am running 80 series shocks on the front of my defender with no tower mods?

gq's on the rear with simply a pin to eye converter which raises the mount by approx 50mm? both give great flex, front spring just comes loose on full flex, rear becomes untraped by about 4", have relocators - but going to tie in shortly?

thanks Serg. basically the same travel as the OE shock, just 2" taller.....

some brands don't need the towers raised, it depends on their closed length. 80 series Koni's do, otherwise they go metal to metal. Ask me how I know.....
