Slight annoying problem, I have had a knock on the rear of my GU wagon since I fitted a 100mm (4") lift. I have finally narrowed it down to the shock. They are TD, 9 ways 4" over standard obviously. It's only one and it seems to knock very loud, like a thud under the rear as if something is snapped or a bush severely shagged though its not! It's the shock. It's not on bottom or top out either, just with regular bumps but almost inconsistent.
I have checked all the obvious, no fowling anything etc the action seems to work fine you can adjust and feel the difference. The shock is not brand new but has done little work.
Any ideas? Is this a common thing to go wrong with 9ways?
Hopefully there is a way around buying a new pair (at $600 a pair I have better things to buy)

You reckon? I remove the shock and it's gone, replace with the other side etc and it's still gone. Put the sus shock back in and it's back! It has to be the shock!
I had this prob with the same shock, the shock is basically free floating somehow. Extend the shock to full length and compress, do this several times and it should go away. To test extend to full length then compress suddenly, if there is no resistance for the top 1-2" it will then 'thump' as it hits the fluid - the shock is farked. I replaced 4 TD adjustables with this problem under warranty.
Bugger! Thanks mate, that's the problem allright, it's got a huuuge air pocket. I didn't buy them new, I doubt they are more then 2 years old. Guess I'm stuffed! Don't think I'll buy TD's again!
give em a good bash on the ground and them feel the difference, if not hang it up by the shaft and let it extrude under its own weight for a while, and see if it works.
So your saying that you bought a second hand set of shocks, that you don't really know the history of, their stuffed and you don't know why, but you won't buy that brand again. Makes a lot of sence.
