GQ diesel NA and safari questions

what is to high km for a GQ Lwb NA diesel im looking at buying one with 298km on engine, its been oil changed every 5000km not offroaded hard. ive searched abit is the average cost of a rebuilt round 4g is that diy or having a shop do it?


other thing is, had a look at a safari Swb today with a 4.2 NA looked okish bit of rust in the rear window frames but what worried me was it had no compliance plate in the engine bay, which from what i understood is a major no no, the guy said he had all teh papers from importation and the like ive walked away as i thought when registerd it had to have it and also it was illegal to remove it. but it did only have 180km on the engine

i only looked at it becuase of the price, but the 24v syetem, and no rear seat in the swb turned me off it, that and the lack of compliance plate which was just weird.

I would be checking this up as we could never register any of our grey import bikes without one.

afaik it must have a compliance plate, its illegal to sell drive one, remove it. and you cant register it without one, their maybe an exception under the old 15 year rule but im not sure becuase complinace was still an issue.

what kinda fuel econ would i expect from a lwb gq 4.2l non turbo

Mines not a piece of shit, had it for two years and it goes anywhere and everywhere I want it to go. Infact if it wasnt for the PTO winch on the front of my piece of shit as you call them, quite a few of the aussie 4wds would have been f**ked.
Wrksux, if you are concerned about the rear seats, then I probably wouldnt even bother getting a shorty. There is next to no leg room in the back seats anyway. I took mine out completely and now I can store enough crap for a month away in the back and on the roof rack.
Mine has a compliance plate and everything else and I havent had a major complaint with mine except like alot of others I find the 24v a slight pain in the arse. Other then that, its tops...oh yeah and the sunroof, in summer it gets bloody hot inside with the sunroof. I just made up a little cover for it and its right :armsup:

i dont ever plan to sit in the rear of it, i expect to be driving! but rear seats is something i need from time to time, and he didnt have rear seats. ive found a nice lwb wich will probly suit my needs better as i plan to start and a aprentaceship next year as a sparkie soits probly better to have to much instead of to little room.

i said most not all,as i have worked on alot of imported ones and MOST of them are a shitbox,sitting around for years dosent do them to good.im not saying theres no good ones as ive seen good ones aswell,but nothings better than aussie built one

if you can i would go a 4.2 safari over the aus delivered one

the 24v system maybe be a little bit of pain the arse but most parts are cheaper to fix as they are more industrial/agriculture i.e. alternators and starter motor great for comp stuff but also good as daily driver as its cheaper to run..

I just missed out on an import that was in great nick, I inspected a few of em as well and I thought they bloody good value for money. To give you a sense of scale I checked roughly 30odd Patrol (around 1990 vintage) amd everyone of them was massively overpriced or a flogged out tradies truck. Checked out 3 Safaris of similar vintage all low Ks, exgines pulling really well and excellent coach work and almost certainly no off road (and had PTOs).

However no compliance plate = no sale
What, haven't you ever done lines of International Roast off a hookers back with $100 notes?
