timing gear cover seal-removal

Post by Amanda »

Can anyone here tell me a simple way to remove the seal from the timing gear cover on my 2F engine. I have the replacement in hand, and it is only a rubber seal. It looks like there's a metal bushing of some sort in there as well. The manual I have saye to drive it out with a piece of tubing. I'm probably missing something real simple here... thanx for any help! :?:

Do you have the timing case removed?
I beleive in the manual it is telling you to drive it out with a piece of tube while the case is removed from the engine.
I usually just drive a screwdriver into the outer edge of the seal and twist it out. It sometimes requires this to be done in a couple of places around the seal to remove it.

I'm not certain on the dimensions of the seal, but I normally drive a few long screws into the face of the seal - careful not to score the seal surface on the shaft - then remove the seal with careful use of leverage. you can buy dedicated seal removers, but they are spendy and don't do the job any better.

Got it out, thanks for clarifying that. Didn't want to hash anything up. The cover was removed as I'm just reassembling after a rebuild.
