Bent something?

Post by Emo »

I was out having a play at Mt Disappointment today. I dropped my left front wheel down a deep hole and it hit with a hard thump.
Now my steering wheel isn't straight when the car is driving in a straight line and the steering feels pretty strange (very nervous).
Any ideas what I should look for? The vehicle is an 80 series Landcruiser.

Maybe bent tie rod - the metal rod that connects your two front swivel hubs. Bending that will change the toe in = scary steering, and change the average direction of the tyres = steering wheel not straight.

You should be able to see the bend - you can put a straight edge along it to be sure, but it'll probably be obvious.
