2LT motor.....oh so slow too!
(I was going to post this in the 3l thread, but did not want to disturb that one).
I have a 2LT lump in my LJ70 but it just does not seem to be performing. Just seems to be slow and sluggish.
Heres a brief run down:
1. Done approx 200k+
2. Had the injectors and fuel pump modded.
3. Had an intercooler in it but bypassed it, need the blue silicon hoses.
4. Does max about 110kmph on 31" AT's on a straight road.
5. Does max about 95kmph on 35" on a straight road.
6. Don't have an rpm meter but the engine is quiet and seems to purr along quite happily.
7. Have the boost set at about 8psi and have not been any higher.
8. Presently having the turbo rebuilt...nothing special just a look and replace any worn parts.
9. Timming belt and bearings replaced.
10. Considering setting the boost to 11psi once intercooler piping correct.
11. Blows a bit of black smoke when given the boot.
I was suspecting the head might be cracked, but no real tell tale signs
The engine performs pretty well offroad in low gear, so no real complaints there. Just I would expect a bit higher top end running on the 31" ATs, perhaps 120 to 130Kmph . Going up some rather steep hills the engien will happily go up at 60 to 70kmph but the temperature needle will shoot right up, but will quickly come down again.
Well, thats about it.......any comments or tips most welcome.
I wanna stick a 1KZ in the future....however no finances for the far future!

Hi,
I also have a 2LT in my LN106 Hilux.
It's completely stock except for 2 1/2" exhaust, running 33's. I have had it up to approximately 135km/hr.
I agree it's a real slow poke.
I have no idea how many true kms the motor has done, but I have resisted turning up the boost incase it blows.
Cheers,
Daniel.

notable ommission was your exhaust size????
I had a 2LT in a 86 Dual cab on 31's with only one Mod ...3inch exhaust and Turbo Muffler ( could see straight through it, token effort really)
and it had no problem passing and getting up around the 130k/hr mark had heaps of torque and was good to tow with, was no rocket at the lights but was a good tow car

The exhaust is a 2 1/2" going into a 2". Has a muffler somewhere just under the passenger.
Would just running a 3" practically all the way through, with a 'token' muffler be my answer? All I want is the ability to cruise at 120kmph and upto 130kmph if possible......if can achieve that I would be very happy
How about doing up a down pipe. Help the exhaust to breath better.
Maybe you could even do a screamer pipe. That means the wastegate and exhuast pipe are seperated. When it starts the boost u might hear the "Shaaaarrrrrr" noise.
That should allow the turbine to spool up better.
Run 2 3/4 to 3inch all the way. U could even dump the muffler if u're crazy.
This might increase boost slightly due to less restriction.
Up the boost.
Turn up the boost. Maybe yoour speed governor been set low.

My RIG sucks big time.
BOOST COMPENSATOR
Hi I had the slowest 2LT in a Bundera.(It became slower/lost power over time) All I did was play around with the Boost Copensator and fuel screw on the back of the pump. Tool's for the boost comoensater one hex key and one spanner. Just listen to the motor , it will tell you when it's happy underload.Idle speed had to be dropped. Black smoke SHOULD ONLY BE SEEN UNDER heavy LOAD AND THEN ONLY FOR A VERY SHORT TIME overfueling is not a good thing.
It;s like having a new motor. I run 31''will change to 33'' now that I have found this extra power.

There isnt any real power gain by going full 3" throughout the entire system, get a straight 3" dump pipe of the turbo, into a mandrel bent 2 1/2" with hi flow/no muffler.
Other options include:
- buy a pyro and ask dumbdunce about some EGTs.
- buy a boost guage, bleed valve and controller.
- get your intercooler installed and working.
- when the pump was modded, did u get a boost controller installed?
- start playing round with boost and fueling, should be able to get 12PSI safely with a pyro, fuel pump mods, intercooler, boost compensator, controller and bleed valve.
On the 2LT, max boost is somewhere round 9PSI, a bleedvalve will trick the boost sensor and let you run whatever pressure you like through your boost controller.
Probably best to get a workshop fiddle with the tuning after this, and get your exhaust mods completed.
Its not going to be a rocket ship, but should have a fair amount of mumbo.

Mine not an electronic type engine, only 2LT11. Can you still put a boost controller on the fuel pump? Anyway the fuel pump has been modded.+dj_hansen+ wrote:There isnt any real power gain by going full 3" throughout the entire system, get a straight 3" dump pipe of the turbo, into a mandrel bent 2 1/2" with hi flow/no muffler.

The use of a bleed valves sound interesting to trick the boost sensor!
You right about the workshop fiddling around with the tuning.
I meant boost compensator sorry, not controler, der too much homework.
They sit ontop of fuel pump and adjust for fuel by sensing boost pressure, so you dont overfuel at low revs with low boost and lean out at the top end.
There is a pic and a bit of a spiel in the 3L oh so slow thread on page 3.

I've just put a 2.5" right through my bundy. Makes a big difference on the highway. It's still an effort doing 110, but its got a lot more pickup once there. I'd say the top speed has probably gone up 10 or so km/h. Just generally much nicer to drive too, + you can hear the turbo now.

What is the point in 3inch dump into 2.5 mandrel? Vs 3inch throughout
My view is 3inch standard pipe with Hi flow is poor man's 2.5 Mandrel minus the droning noise

I saw that on BabyGods thread on the 3L..never even knew they existed. Actaully from your description would like to aquire one. I would say they are availoable at the chop shops. $$$?+dj_hansen+ wrote:I meant boost compensator sorry, not controler, der too much homework.

Not after a petrol engine and too much powerBabyGodzillaGTi-R wrote:I knowe how to sort out your quest for power.
Drop in a 1JZ or a 2JZ or a 7MGTE.
I've a friend who's trying to sell off his NA 2JZ. Maybe that would be just right. 220hp man.
Not exactly on a quest for power, just want to tune up 2LT engine so can cruise nicely on the highway. As said before, offroad its ok.
If I do whats been said here, as well as in the 3l thread, hopefully I should be happy. If its still lousy then the 1KZ option is still open if and when in the future.
By the way, is it auto or manual? Still in vehicle? My neighbour was looking for a 1JZ.
