It may not be of much help but I have heard the computers in the 4.5 take a lot of time to "adapt" to things, like Hi-clones etc. But this is not first hand knowledge so it may be of no use to you!

I'm no mechanic either, but I have a 99 model GU 4.5 petrol and it was fitted with extractors and 2.5 inch exhaust. I didn't have any problems from fitment of a bigger exhaust system.

There must be something else wrong with it. Maybe the dizzy. Good luck with it. Overall the 4.5 is a strong engine and the dizzy is the only part of the engine that ever let me down. By the way, the dizzy is made by Mitsubishi.

 Is it blowing any smoke. If it has drop a valve it will be very noisy. Im guessing you checked spark and thing like that. Check compression, that will pick a droped vavle straight away I very much dout its your fault.

Sorry for offtopic, Anymore info on your dizzy? What happened? How many kms etc? What did have to do to fix it etc?

Just a concerned 4.5 Owner! I recently got back from a rather remote trip, had something have gone wrong out there we would have really been in the shiat! Thanks Dan
