full time gas possible??

Post by Wotto »

Gday everyone

i am wanting to convert my patrol (4.2 EFI dual fuel) to straight gas, so i rang a local gas place and was told it cant be done because the engine needs to start and warm up on petrol before switching to gas. But i could have sworn i've read about dedicated gas patrols before.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

It has a gas tec system installed now and i was thinking it would be a simple job to add another tank and plumbing, plus one of those flash lube kits.

thanks!

What they told you is complete rubbish.

yeah i thought so. i'll give them a miss i think. the gas man sounds pretty reputable, might give them a buzz.

does anyone know an approx cost for this conversion? I have a 100l gas tank and wanted to take out the petrol tank and put another gas tank in its place. And is gas injection much more beneficial than the current setup?

I used to always start my dual fuel system on gas, because it was much easier to start on gas than petrol.

Early on in the gas fuel industry it was always advised to start the car on petrol and to switch to petrol before shutting down. These days, if the car can run on unleaded it can run on LPG 24/7.

If you're really worried about it you can add a few drops of upper cylinder lubricant into your throttle body area occasionally.

I worked for Gasresearch for 13 years and have a straight LPG turbo 4.2 patrol with a Delco 808 (VN) computer modified to fit for timing control. You have a cold start primer to start.
