diff ratios for Hilux V6

Post by mmaaxx »

g'day all,

Id like some advice on your experiences with diff-ratios in relation to increase tyre diameter. I know that with the increased diameter your revs drop and the trucks more sluggish on take-off. My 265/75x16 BFG's have done this to my truck. If I wanted to put on 32/11.5x15 or 33/10.5x15 tyres what diff ratio would I need to put in my diff housing to give it the same perfomance that it had as if it was standard. The factory V6 diff ratio is 4.56:1 so I'm just guessing here but would 4.88:1 cure my problem or should I choose another ratio? And will the new ratio also bring my speedo back to standard? I have a Marks Adaptors variable ratio box I use for the speedo at the moment.

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks

What gearbox are you using
The Commodore V6 should be about 2600/2700 at 110 kmh

4.556 in the non turbo diesels might suit.

Diff Ratio (5L) 4.556:1 (1KZ-T) 3.727:1 (5VZ-FE) 4.100:1

thanks blakpak, but I was pretty sure the 5VZ had a 4.56:1 ratio in it standard. R u sure its 4.11:1 ? Im not doubting you I just wanna make sure.

If my hilux has got a 4.1:1 ratio, then would fitting 4.56:1 with my 265/75x16 BFG's go well to giving me better performance or would that ratio not suit that tyre size?

thanks mate,

My XTRA cab hilux 2003 model, factory V6 3.4L engined, has 4.1 diff ratios. Confirmed by Toyota.

I think the Dual cabs have a different ratio, but not sure. You can contact any Toyota dealership, give em your rego, engine and chassis number and they can print out a technical report on the vehicle, all sorts of useful info.

Cheers
