Hi All,
I have had a rattle in the pump for a few weeks now, just got the Manual (nice one!! thank's David) and had a look, repair by replacement, BUMMER, rang several overhaul places, $250 - $350 to get it overhauled, Daihatsu do not have a rebuild kit. Went to remove it and the pulley moved, done up the nut and now NO RATTLE. Moral - look after your pump or have shallow pockets

Hi JD, had the same problem on my Feroza. Only found out when it threw the belt off though! The previous owner had obviously had the same thing happen as there were already marks on the fan previous to that happening, but I could never work out what caused them until it happened again...
The pulley on mine had actually worn on the shaft of the pump. The garage just machined the back of the pulley and placed a huge washer behind it to keep it square; they also fitted a spring washer under the nut and Loctited it too.
I've since heard it's a common problem on Daihatsus (along with timing belts snapping prematurely - that's what killed my old Charade!)
