When released, it was class leader for power but economy has never been it's strong point. The LR tdi has always been more economical, and the Prado 3.0 was generally considered better all round when it arrived. Compared to the modern crop of common rail diesels it's very dated - but I suspect it will prove to be much more reliable.

I think 12l/100 is about average for highway, offroad uses more. Some may do better.

The block is the same as the new DiD. ;)

Cheers,

My Gen 2.5 (4m40) does about 7km/liter in the City. This goes up to about 8.5-9km/liter on the highway.

mine averages 11 to 12 l/100 around town. this loaded with drawer system and running free wheel hubs.
on the freeway with the camper trailer it averages 14 -15 l/100. off road including low range about the same 14-15 l/100(with no trailer).
if you want to have a run in one send me a pm. im in happy valley also.

hey cheers for that.

im still not 100% convinced to get a diesel. from what i can tell the 3.0 is actually a fairly economical v6.

im not really interested in havin much power, just reliability and economy.

just found this on the tradingpost.com.au:
"Pajero GLS 1994 2.8 Turbo diesel, 155000kms, excellent condition, $13500"

In stock form they're not too bad - what are you planning on doing with it?

With lift and tyres I'm lucky to use much less than 15l/100km.
