this is only an assist system isnt it? but can you run a full hydro steer setup the same way? and are either engineerable for road use?RUFF wrote:You want Hydro Assist?
If so you only need to Tap the Bleader hole in the top of the box and then put a T piece in the steel external line that runs around the box.
More info pleaseRUFF wrote:You want Hydro Assist?

Am fed up up with busting boxes and been looking at hydr-assist........
Whats needed?
Does it work well off the Landrover box?
Or are you better going to a dedicated system?
Help

There is a bleeder plug in the top cover of the steering box. Remove the cover and drill and tap a larger thread here. Reassemble and run a hydraulic line from this new port to one end of the hydro assist ram.D9OSV wrote:More info pleaseRUFF wrote:You want Hydro Assist?

On the left side of the steering box there is a steel hydraulic line, which runs from the front to the back of the box (not to be confused with the pressure line from the pump or return line to the reservoir). Install a tee piece in this line and run a hydraulic line from the tee to the other end of the ram.
When you steer to one side the line from the top cover will be pressure into the hydro assist ram and the oil displaced from the ram will return through the new tee, to the reservoir. This will be reversed when you steer in the opposite direction.
The flow from the pump can be improved by enlarging the ports in the pump.
The pressure relief setting of the pump can be increased by pressing the plug, which holds the relief spring, slightly further into the pump body. There are pics and instructions for this in the rover forum on the pirate bulletin board.
