I think a Hyundai motor will fit!

I think a Hyundai motor will fit!
Yes you heard right!
I own an NG V6 Pajero and a 1997 V6 Sonata. I have often thought that the two motors looked very similar. I even had to by a part for the NG a couple weeks ago, and it stated on the box that it was also a Hyundai part.
Anyways, I just found a site that states that the Sonata V6 was designed by Mitsubishi. http://auto.consumerguide.com/Auto/Used ... ewshowall/
Any opinions? I was thinking that it may be a cheaper option for those of us who have tired v6's.

Hyundai had a partnership with Mitsubishi back in their early days. So most of their products are Mitsu based. The Starex, early Sonata, Galloper SUV, etc. They are not made with 'other' manufacturers spare parts. Most of them are Mitsu carbon copies except for the skin.grumpy221 wrote:I nearly bought a hyundai but learnt that they are put together with other manufacturers spare parts.........ergo mitsi motors....etc
To give you an idea of other Korean manufacturers and their partners
Kia (pre-Hyundai days): Ford/Mazda
Daewoo: Opel/GM
Ssangyong: Mercedes Benz
Samsung: Nissan

Yes Noisey, the reason why I brought up the idea of using a hyundai v6 was the possibility of it being a cheaper option. I don't have a great deal of options really. It's a 1989 model. No point spending heaps of money on it.
So, does any one reckon, that if they are the same motor, the hyundai engine would fit with little hassle?
Fool_injected, I'm looking forward to what you can find out.
Thanks everyone for your comments...

Proton is a partnership between the Malaysian company (and state baby) Proton and Mitsubishi. Their products are even less disguised than the Hyundais.
I'm not sure for your specific application, but we use lots of Hyundai parts to convert ex-RHD Mitsus into road legal LHD over here.

Hi all,
So I'm guessing no one really know's if it will fit as easily as the magna motor?
My current v6 is leaking oil like crazy, so rather than have the motor rebuilt, I wanted to just put another one in. I'm trying to find the cheapest way to go. I don't want to spend too much on something that is 17 years old!
Thanks guys!
