As someone who knew Mark personally, I am greatly saddened by his passing, he will be sorely missed by his fellow drag racers, the fraternity among which I met Mark so many years ago. Both of us raced and still race Chrysler/Valiants and we used to talk every time we met at the track, discussing the latest tricks and info on how to makes our Val's better than the Holdens and Fords which littered the staging lanes around us. Mark had such an easy going personality it was impossible not to like the guy, he didn't really get wound up about stuff, all obstacles big or small were taken in his stride, he loved racing and used to delight in telling me how little his set-up was worth compared to the rest of the guys around us.
I find it somewhat ironic that just around a year or two ago he fitted a full roll cage to his streetcar telling me that he just didn't feel safe anymore racing an low 11-second Valiant without the benefit of strengthening and safety. To those who feel offended by that, forget about it, Mark would of seen the irony as well, he was that sort of guy. Mark had a great sense of humor and greatly respected among the off-street racing fraternity, something that he had been doing for many years. I haven't seen Mark for a couple of months, probably because he was rebuilding his engine again after shoving way too much nitrous oxide into again. Man he loved that stuff!
He used to say "Scotty, stop mucking around with those blowers and shit and get some nitrous on it, you won't regret it" Maybe I should of listened as I've never gone as quick as him, but I guess I couldn't come to grips with the rebuilds. It was funny, the first motor was always the cheapest but somehow it held together for over 300 passes, the fresh motors never fared as well. But Mark would always smile about and just talk about how he was going to build something stronger. One of my best mates recently sold Mark a tunnel ram for his car, a high dollar US piece that is rarely seen in Australia and I thought my mate would never part with it. When I asked him why he was selling it, Gerry said " Because I know it's going to a good home, I don't need to sell it but I'll never use and Mark will and he'll do it justice" that's the sort of guy Mark was, and that's the sort of respect and admiration that people had for him
As I write this, I've got a tear in my eye because I'll miss the nuggety guy, who used to make it all seem so easy. I regret that we'll never see him run at the new Western Sydney International Dragway, something that more than once he told me he was looking so forward to.
We'll be there mate, and we'll be thinking of you. RIP mate.

i did not know, or even met the guy, but my heart was saddened to here of such a tragic loss. Just remember though! most people are lost not enjoying their life. This guy was. Good on him, good luck in the big off road track in the sky.

those of us who compete know the dangers involved but never expect something so tragic to happen.
I think all of us are a bit shocked and even though i don't know him personally he is still part of the 4wd family and will be sadly missed.

I Would like to take this opportunity onece again, to express my sincere condolences, to all the friends, family, and rescuers of Mark. This event has saddened us all, to hear of such a tradgedy, has made us all have a think about life and how precious it is. I should hope that we can all take a few moments of silence tomorrow, to remeber and reflect on a man, that has left so many behind. He will be missed dearly by all. Mark, Rest In Peace.

A tragic accident such as this affects everyone in their own way. Mark was a much loved and well respected young man who had built up a successful business and loved all things with motors. His passing has touched many people and our thoughts are with all of those people, including those who attended to him on the night. But most of all our hearts and thoughts are with the people closest to Mark - his lovely wife Emma, his parents - Charles & Diana, his sister - Lisa and the poor fellow that was sitting next to him.
Please dont let Mark's passing be a total waste. Let's try and take as many positives out of this as we can. Take care when your out and about and ask what else can I do to protect my safety, give your family a hug every time your see them, and if you haven't spoken to a dear friend for a few days give them a call just to say hi. Your family and friends are your most valuable posession that can never be replaced.
