Spotties on the roof

Post by Sneezing7 »

I have tried searching, but I cannot find what i am after.

Basically I have a set of 4 spotties mounted on a singular roof rack on my fez.

They are not wired up yet, simply becuase I am unsure how to pass the wires from outside to inside the cabin. Guessing that through the sunroof/flip roof is the best option? I would prefer not to drill holes throught the roof if possible.

Also, is it best to have the lighting bar closer to the front of the car, or towards the middle of the vehicle?

Thanks in advance

PS: Any pics would be great!

I have wired 2 side lights through the sunroof, very bodgilly but it works. once inside you can tuck the wires into the lining along the door, so you only see maybe 2inches of wire at the top and then you see nothing. looks a bit tidier.
And best to have lights close as possible to the front, otherwise your roof will cast a 'shadow'.

I sent my wiring up the B pillar, out through the panel on the inside of the car, out throught the door rubber.

Best near the B pillar, i once had it mounted closer to A pillar, thought it'd be good but i was wrong. the spotties also lights up the dirt, grit, dead bugs on the windscreen. best at B pillar as it doesn't shine on the windscreen. ;)

wiring?? um pretty much like my own backyard wiring setup. looks like crap but i had the wiring running from under the dash, through the driver side vent , up A pillar all the way to the far opening end. putted thru there and hook it up from the outside. no drilling needed at all. had the relay in the engine bay near the battery. One day i do plan to 'tidy up' around the engine bay.

I'm connecting mine up in the morning. I'm planning on drilling the roof inside the sunroof and gromiting/sealing the hole.
I went for the B pillar option because of the reflected light issues as mentioned by MudRoza.

Paul. :)
