daihatsu rocky radiator and front tailshaft
would anyone please know whether any other radiator would fit the Rocky diesel 88 F77 as the original one costs too much. And would the front tailshaft of the ute model fit the wagon? thanks in advance.

How much have you been quoted on a radiator? And what is the reason for a new one?
A new radiator should not be that much more expensive than other makes of cars... You could adapt a different sort to suit I guess.. ask the shop to find one of the same size and with the same outlets/inlets..but then you may need to adaprt or change the fan shroud and maybe the fan setup.
I think all the Rocky models are the same front end.. so the shafts should be intercgangable... Only thing may be the rear ones r different... Bundy should know this

the cheapest new radiator (quote) was from the daihatsu official spare parts dealer toyota (!!!!) CMI at $478 and dearest around $700, recoring was around $340 locally plus freight there and back, and a $470 recore in the Murray Bridge area was quoted as well.
Mine is sort of stuffed due to lots of fins missing so it's only running around half of its capacity. Found an elcheapo second hand one at the wrecker's but at $195 it was too far gone.
Read an o/seas thread on Rockys' overheating problems and it could be the water pump of which there are two types, hi and lo flow, get the hiflow if it fits your engine.

There is a hilux core that is the same size as the Rocky ones. All you need is a radiator guy that is willing to go through the measurements in the core book.
As for frnt tailshafts, they are all the same, as far as I know, its only behind the transfer case that different lengths start to appear, however, I have found out recently that there are some different yoke flanges out there.

shouldnt cost more than $100. to get any radiator overhauled, and thats would be on the expensive side. call a couple of radiator specialists and get quotes, and try and stick to private locally owned shops. stay away from big names like natrads ect.
p.s: that price guess is based on what we get charged at work for a straight forward sevice eg unblocking the core.
