4 RUNNER 2.8DIESEL POWER
Could someone tell me how to increase power to my 2.8 diesel 4 Runner. It is a 1991 5 speed.
I tow a 1.2 tonne boat and wonder if she will pull up a big hill.
P.S. I am limited to money so where can I start first?
Thanks
Steve

2.8D power
I had normal wheels (light truck tyres and rims) now I have 15x7 rims and 31x 10.5 tyres.
Should I go back to standard rims and tyres or will it not make to much differant?
All replies will help!!

I noticed a difference in my hilux when i went to 31 inch tyres from 205/16s it wasn't much, mostly knocked my ecomny off a bit. A mate of mine used to run 30/ 9.5s for his highway tyres so he could gain a little bit on fuel economy.
03 turbo twin cab hilux + 85 xtra cab 253, Have i ever said i love lockers?
Its a shame i have just sold my 4Runner and it already had a turbo set to 10psi and was also a 5 speed. And i had rebuilt nearly the whole driveline.
A turbo is the only real way to make power out of the slugish 3L motor.
Check ebay and the trading post for a turbo system for a 2.8 or a 2.4.
You can add a K&N air filter but they dont make huge diffences also only buy extractors if you dont plan on running a turbo as you will have to ditch the extractors if you fit a turbo.

I wouldnt go no bigger then a 31 tyre if you are after power. If its only a towing car you could chage the diff ratios to a lower ratio so it revs harder but it will use more fuel, and you will loose top end speed.

Yeah, got you there. I will stick to these tyres for now.
I only tow every now and then. But there is this big hill from Bobbin Head (if you know it) to the top where it comes out onto the F3 highway.
The rig runs really well other than when I am towing up hill, so maybe I should get a smaller boat (poop)
