have a look at the miltary trucks the link is at the bottom under militarry I like the 45 series just like a Kaiser but still being made. How do you reckon I could get my hands on one of those. Awesome tow rig and camping vehicle plus it would be just plain cool

Back on my last trip to Fraser i was keeping an eye on the rentals on the island, on the last day, a KIA Sportage pulled into our camp ground, 2-3inch lift, decent mT's, aftermarket steel rear bar, and a 2 inch exhaust system, it didnt look too bad.
1985 LWB Suzuki Sierra, Lock-Rite Rear, SPOA, 2" Body Lift, Climax shackles, Rancho's,
Series 1 Rockhoppers, 31x11.5 MT'S, "To return from the dead very sooooon!"

Great. If my missus sees this thread, she'll get ideas and stop funding my hobby...
I knew of a Sportage down south (name withheld) that had 6" suspension lift, 31's, winch etc.
These are a tough little rig, no doubt about it, just a hero bantamweight.
I have done a bit of research on stuff for these, unfortunately not a lot is available, mainly cosmetic stuff.

FWIW I am about to put a 2.5" spring lift, 1.5" body lift, and 31's or 32's MTR's on mine. One guy in the US has 4" spring lift, 1.5" body lift, and planning to produce a 3" body lift with a SAS running 35's+. Eventually when (if) the engine shits itself, mine will be getting a 2.5 litre Mazda WL-T turbo-diesel (drops straight in), 280 Nm torque vs 175 Nm with the current Kia (Mazda sourced) engine.
Acknowledged weaknesses are the front vacuum hubs (similar to Suzuki Vitaras/GV's) which can be solved with Warn manuals, and some of the electricals due to poor connectors on the early models. "Major Mechanicals" in the bush are actually few and far between, most likely due to poor clearance (spring lift/larger tyres solves that, 13" under the front diff, 9.5" under the rear, along with a more substantial bashplate).
Wheel travel is 10.5" from full droop to full squash up front (greater than an IFS Cruiser - no torsion bar peice of shit, Kia is coil over shock) and about 16" with the spring lift in the rear. Factory Eaton LSD in the rear. Gearbox designed by Getrag,. Suspension geometry by Lotus.....When you build a military chassis you can go shopping around the world for the best people for the job.
No-one in the US Forums has ever seen inside the rear diff or gearbox/T-case, and the only problems with the front hubs have been a result of debris being sucked into the hubs destroying bearings, and then the CV's (only happened once to the 4" lift guy). The engines have the usual assortment of electrical probs that all EFI 4X4 have.
Take a while to download but worth a look

But what are you going to do about gearing. Don't know of any tcase gears to go in and can't imagine a huge range of diff gears avaibale. Where are you going to get a front locker.
Ransom note = demand + collage
4.77 diffs, 1.98:1 Tcase, overall 35.5:1 low-low. 12% better than the best a stock Vitara/GV has to offer. The front third member is steel construction, so it shouldn't shit itself like the Vitara/GV's do.
Took a trip out to the manufacturing area of ARB, They MAY be interested in producing either a one-off or a short run of front lockers, as there could be a military contract in it for them if they play their cards right. (It depends on who you ask, doesn't it? Didn't bother asking ARB Dandenong shop...)
The Klune-V planetary reduction (2.7:1 or 4:1) can have a front plate made up to suit the Kia (available already) and you can put any Tcase you like behind it. Another option is to get a set of higher ratio reduction gears made (similar to the Rockhoppers). More likely I will wait untill I get the Mazda turbodiesel with gearbox and Tcase, which should give about 46:1 low-low. Given the torque of the diesel that should be pleny low enough.

But a Vitara can use a rockhopper. 35.5:1 is not low enough to run anything above about 32"

Don't hold your breath. Paul in the club has been waiting months for them to machine up a part to adapt an ARB for the front of his coiler. Big bucks to make a new air locker with limited appeal, miltary or not. The Dandemnong shop is just an outlet so of course there is no use talking to them

Even more $$$$ not an easy issue to deal with. You are looking at big figures to get this done as a one off and I can't see a gear manufacturer investing to make these.

How much will the Mazda diesel, gearbox and t/case cost and where will you source one and how will you get it installed and engineered and insured? And what do you hope to achieve with all of this? A full on 4wd machine that will need at least a 35" to be worthwhile or a mild 4wheeler running a 32"? Is it really going to be worth it to butcher a $30 car when you could buy a cheaper vehicle to start with with proven aftermarket support
