I heard that my name was mentioned on the board so I thought that I would join in and maybe help out on a few issues if I can.
My name is Matt and I own Kowari Motors 4wd Conversions. I am the East Coast agent for Brunswick Diesels (V8 Diesel conversions), and do suspension mods, body lifts, and a little bit of custom work. I am based in Townsville in North Queensland, so any of you NQ or East Coast guys that want work done on your rigs that other shops don't want to, or know how to do, PM me and I will help you out. Especially if you want a 6.5 litre Chev Diesel under the bonet.

We had a question on the Nissan bit. A 6.5 conversion on a 2.8 GU. I couldn't remember the exact reasons for it not being a good one to do perhaps you can elaborate for us.

No problem.
The 2.8 GU is not the perfect base for the 6.5L conversion because the stock gearbox/transfer will not handle the torque.
This means that you have to replace the gearbox and transfer with a 4.2 diesel model.
There is also extra work involved in getting gearlevers to fit, gearbox crossmember, etc, etc.
The conversion can be done, but it is costly compared to a TD42 or TB42 conversion.

What about the 3.0l TDI.
Are there any running around Townsville at the present.
Would like to see how it fits with everything running.

I have a 6.5L with a side mount turbo in my 80 with the L/C 4 speed auto. 3" exhaust, stock ratios and 37" MTR's.
My question is how to get some more herbs out of it? Would a 4" exhaust be of benefit as some of the GM boards in the US reckon or any other mods you can think of?
i want to leave the ratio's where the are as I like it sitting on 1500rpm at 100kph.
Any ideas would be great.

That looks like a Linquip conversion.
Are you running standard or modified convertor on the auto??

There is a local Engineer that does all my engineering approvals, and he is always happy with the work that we do. Minor mods are not a problem.
On bigger mods, the key is to work in with the Engineer when you are projecting the work. It can save you a lot of hassle if the Engineer can give you guidelines on state regulations before you do the work, rather than put a lot of work into a job and expect the Engineer to approve it at the end. It doesn't matter how well the job was done, if it doesn't comply, he won't approve, and you have to make changes.

That looks like a Linquip conversion.

You are right it is a Linquip job, the truck is an ex Linquip show car, and everything was already done when I bought it (conv wise anyway). The original motor was a 4.0L petrol and the stall is about 900rpm. I don't know if the changed the converter or not. I do know I have to change the kick down point as it shits me when it kicks back just as you hit the torque band.

what gear can you get/stock ? e.g arb that sort of thing would rather go through some one who is in to the scene (spent my hard earnt dollars) rather than the guys in town.(in town in townsville that is)

Camo, I can pretty much get whatever you want. I don't stock a lot of gear at the moment, but am already dealing with some well known suppliers/manufacturers. I can get what you want generally in 2-3 days. Very soon will have stock of popular offroad tyres (simex, pro-comp, swamper) and suspension lift kits with some of my own gear. I can supply ARB gear at retail $$$$. I know what you mean when you say no one in this town wants to know you if you want to do anything besided the normal. I will change all that.

You are right Shane, I read my previous post and it is misleading. the 2.8 and 4.2 gearboxes are absolutely different, but the transfer cases are the same.
i think there is some very small difference but i haven't heard what it is.
The marks crawler gears were changed apparently to take this small difference into account.
just a rumour i heard so would like to know if its true.
