93 single cab Lux on older lux chassis

Post by Richride »

Hi Guys, have been looking into 4wd'ing on the net over the last lew months and just find this site the best :D

I have a single cab 2wd 93 hilux and now want it to be my 4wd, as I want to run a V8 and do a few mods I think start by getting the chassis ready with engine, adaptor ect and when complete just swap over the cab and get it engineered.
SO,,,,,,,,,,

For the last few months I have been looking for a 4runner/hilux/surf complete rolling chassis including diff centres/transfer in Victoria (Melb) without gearbox and engine with no luck other than chassis combos over $2000 from wreckers!
(lots of cheap offers from NSW and QLD!)
I am now starting to think a older 85 to 89 chassis might be the go, BUT can someone tell me if the body mounts would be in the same position.
Also, when this is registed, would it be classed as a 93 model or from the year the chassis was made :?:
If anyone here has something available, I would love a PM

I don't want to butcher my cab to fit, my biggest consurn is the shock mount on the front, will it clear my cab and do the mounts line up?

Whats so good about the 2wd you need to keep it, as the only thing your keeping is the cab, it seems like a bit of a waste of time and effort.

you could convert the 2wd to 4wd and do the engine swap ?
you will need to fab up a transfer case support though and cut all the ifs off and run leaf springs (common practice).

other options is just buy a cheap 4x4 model and drop the engine in and sell the 2wd, in the end it will be a hell of alot less work than trying to do a cab swap and then get rid of your old incomplete 2wd lux.

Still trying to find out if it a bolt on job and not require custom chassis mounts to be made?

Tried to find the post on this on the site you quoted, but with no luck

Why not just sell your current vehicle and buy one that is already a complete 4WD from factory :?:

Its not school holidays is it?
