Mq swb suspention
Mq swb suspention
hi all, I own a MQ SWB and im new to 4wding so this might sound like a stupid question but is it possible to mount my frount and rear diff housing under my leaf springs for a cheap and easy lift?? If not, does anyone know of any shops that sell suspention lift kits in brissy and a rough idea of price?? Im only looking for a 2" suspention lift for now, and a 2" body lift in the near future. It currently has 33"s but i will upgrade to 35-36"s after the lift, will i need to cut out any section of my guards for this mod?? thanks for taking the time to read my question.
soa
hey Ryan yeah its called soa (spring over axel ) altho u cant actually buy any kits to do this u can home fab it or hav some one do it for u if u tlk to screwy_screwball or dr frankinstien they would be able to help u out more as i hav not yet performed this mod i am currently lookin into it my self i own a mk shorty and need the lift ...but it wont be that cheap as u hav to buy longer shockies extended brake lines move your front cross member or cut part of it out u will hav to lengthen both drive shafts and also hav to cut the steering knuckle and rotate the diffs angle and reweld them back together 35s will clear wen u do a soa conversion so there is no probs there ... for my lift all i hav is a 2 inch body lift and some suspention mods but i cant atm afford to soa my shorty as yet ...

You can get a kit for the steering thru ORI when they open up again - the hi steer arm is in there with cross over steer, barkelines only cost $120 for a pair of lengthened units, cut and rotate the rear is simple enough - its just the front that takes the most time and effort.
If you have only just started in the 4x4 scene it may be prudent to just go the 2 inch spring and 2 inch body lift for now - shouldn't be more than $500 for the lot second hand (I am selling mine for that - hint hint) I had 35 MTR's on mine with same combo and had no problem wih scrubbing.
There are loads of things you can do to the suspension though - really depends on what you wanna do with it? My suggestion is keep it simple for the time being hey, when you are sure you like it and enjoy the sport then maybe go from there....?
Body lift would take about 2 hours to do if you don't push it and is doable with just a spanner socket and screwdriver, same with springs, easy to swap but will take you a fair bit longer.
Cheers

rules
I don't know if you all know this yet but modification rules are now the same for all states in australia. You cant do a SPOA in vic or tas either.
Remember some days your the pigeon and other days your the statue
Re: rules
Are you sure on that? I think you'll find they are trying to standardise the rules but it hasn't been approved yet. If it were true don't you think all the 4wd forums would be having huge debates on the subjectDR Frankenstine wrote:I don't know if you all know this yet but modification rules are now the same for all states in australia. Ransom note = demand + collage
Re: rules
The last i heard it hasnt come in yet, but some engineers are strating to work to those rules allready. Thats why you get some people say they are in and others are saying there not. It is just some engineers are starting to follow and get used to the rules now.grimbo wrote:Are you sure on that? But you still wont be able to get a SOA passed in qld. Best bet would be 2" springs and 2" body lift and at set of 33s or if you want 35,36s dont daily drive them and just use them for weekend work.
you are still able to do all of the mods in NSW. expensive to engineer but can be done. the rules have not been standardised for all states as yet.
i expect that it may all come in when financial year kicks over.
