Hi All,

I am trying to get into this stuff with Punchy. ( He works for me)
I was just wondering if it is true about Surfs having problems with the heads?

Any help/advice would be appreciated. I am after something I can go and have a little fun with but also need to transport a family.

Thanks

The 2LT (2.4 Turbo Diesels) have alot of problems with heads and head gaskets although the 1KZTE (3.0 TD) have very very little head or gasket problems

## The earlier LN61V surfs with the black top Gen 1 2-LT never seemed to suffer this problem only the second gen silver top 2-LT etc LN130

I think with the 2LT you either get a good one or a bad one, i've got friends who've had the head gaskets go on a number of occasions and was only ever resolved after fitting a 3L head and head studs.... But then you've got mine which has done it's fair share of low range/traffic work and never once had a problem.
If you get one first thing to do is replace the thermostat, get the radiator flushed and replace the coolant with top quality stuff. Oh and cross your fingers.

Yes i believe that there are good ones and bad ones!

I had a 2LT and gave it one hell of a hard time and never had a problem!

I was also told that you should replace the Thermostat as most of them are for the COLDER japanese climate! I changed mine straight away! Maybe this has something to do with them getting hot and popping the head gasket!!! :?

have a look at my site for some info and trip reports. The biggest problem, other than usual maintenance like thermostat and leacky/cracked radiator top tanks is the clutch fan. There is an adjustment for our hotter climate that should be looked at.

PS: Nick, if you are onto your 4th head in 3 years - do you know why your heads are failing - alarm bells should have rung after the second failed head surely? Are you loosing coolant?

Cheers
