rocky f78 economy
I just got my f78 turbo diesel and i am getting 350kms to a full tank. Does that sound auot right? If not any one know why i am chewing through so much fuel? any help would be great? Also the rear main seal is leaking anyone changed one of those before and know how hard it is? thanks for your help
350kms to a tank is woeful... thats around 17L/100kms
I get at least 450kms, and that is just around town driving.. not taking it easy either.. and most trips it doesn't really get to operating temp, which is bad for economy also.
Floody on here gets around 600kms per tank i believe when he is doing long distance travelling, also in an F78.
Do you rev high in gears? Does it feel down on power? Something does seem to be wrong, unless your sitting on 4k rpm all day .. lol
Nick.

Feather it, change before or at 2500rpm MAX, and cruise around 2grand in any gear. With my NA i get an easy 420-440 ks (never pushed it to 450 yet )
I've found cruising, or trying to cruise under 2000rpm is bad for consumption, pedal pushes more fuel to the engine than it can burn... the sweet spot might be different with a turbo thou

60 + Turbo, 33"s
The Sweet spot with a turbo is all the time... "OOhhhh yeeeaahhhh"
lol
I've been looking into this 2k rpm thing... Coz i tend to cruise low as I can without labouring... usually sit around 1500... but as you said, it may be better for economy sitting at max torque.. which is 1900 in a F78. I'll let you know soon

My old f75 with boot increase, 31's and lift used to get about 10L/100KM, and it wasnt driven economicaly. With the long ranger tank, could get 800 or more KM's out of it. Motor had over 250,000km too.

No its not high.. bout the same with me.. although my 31's would cause me to be doing a bit over 110... for starters, if you sit on a lower speed it wil do wonders for your economy... Last time i went to Sydney i sat on around 90...

well if your area's hilly, then it'd be coz ur burning more fuel to climb uphill, stopping and going often burn more, head on against the wind burns bit more. if you do keep moving ur right foot up and down just to maintance the same speed you'd burn more, try to keep your right foot still as possible i know it can be strainful on that leg. but it helps.
tune up mite be needed?
For me being deaf, i watch the gearstick for that lil shaking. if it doesn't seem even or smooth, then i'd look at tune up. espeically for diesel. i hasn't owned one but would love to own one. my mate has a diesel. always maintance his hilux ute, could drive full tank from toowomba all the way to narrabri in nsw. stardard tank.
I was surprised at that. it's like 6 hrs drive away

Hey, that is not soo much. With full tank i could drive 780km (that was maximum) with feroza if it is hot weather, but on cold weather and snow only 400.MudRoza wrote:

But for every day driving int o job and little offroad, etc, less than 10 l / 100km.

Hows your rig running, is it blowing any smoke, if so what colour. How often is it serviced, what is your usage and driving style. AND what pressure are your tyres at???? You would not belive the difference in eceonomy and drivability that correct tyre pressures will gain.

Yeah she is running fine, serviced every 5000kms only done 135000 kms, no smoke besides a little on start up, i do drive it over 100, thats probably why. i run about 34psi in my tyres, sound about right?? Could it need new injectors or a fuel pump??lay80n wrote:Hows your rig running, is it blowing any smoke, if so what colour. How often is it serviced, what is your usage and driving style.
