Are Those Mongrel Tyres any good?

Hey!
Are those mongrel remould tyres any good? The tyre place reckons there good but of course there gonna say that! Im having trouble getting Simexs around here without going to Melbourne so i thought those might do??

yea a mate of mine has ran hem on his cruiser as play tyres for over 2 years now in the 33x12.5" size no faults what so ever he has run them and high and low tyre pressures on muddy rocky and ruff terrain without a problem and they dont have any signs of the remould coming addrift, i rekon they are good bang for your buck but they are no simex.

If you can afford simex, don't let a simple inconvinience like distance stop you. They'll shit on mongrels (judging fromthe tread depth alone).

I've got a friend who runs them, he's happy with them as cheap play tyres. He did have one begin to peel from the tyre it was moulded to, but after a lot of k's - the tyre was nearing end of life anyway. He bought another 2 or 3 to replace that one and other worn ones recently.

I been running 32" Mongrels on my zook for a year or two, now.
I'm very happy with them.
Have done 2 Adventure Tours and many hard trips. Lots of road miles, too, but my car is light.
But I recommend real simex if you can afford.
Mongrels do have better road manners than the simex, maybe because they are on a radial carcass alread softened up from pre-use???

Have seen 2 failures of mongrels on seperate vehicles, one the sidewall badly balooned out and the other tore chunks out of the tread whilst highway driving, both were fairly new and not abused. There is no chance i would put mongrels or any retreads for that matter on my car.

For the sake of an extra couple of hundred bucks, the extra safety and peice of mind is worth it. Especiall with more modern vehicles capable of higher speeds when passing etc..

My Simex easily outhandle the mogrels on my mates rangie. As soon as he had the blowout he swapped to bias claws and recons it has transformed his car. Much nicer to drive on and off road. 32in Simex are only $320 anyway.

Ahhh yeah... no worries!! .. although its sorta 50/50 but I think i might get the simexs just cause i dont think ive heard anything bad about them... im sure the mongrels are ok but its hard enough justifying to the mrs that i need new tyres n id be in trouble from her if i brought them n they were dodge!

Anyway thanks for the help! Its always good to get other ppls opinions and especically from people who have tried and tested these things!

I think they are a good tyre for zooks seeing as they are so light but for a cruiser or a patrol (RR in your case i am guessing) they are not up to scratch

first up i have never used simex tyres, but from what ive seen of vehicles that have used them they all say theyd be better with bead locks. this is cos the tyre is so stiff that even at 12psi they struggle to flex and this is on patrols and cruisers and used in rock crawling type applications (which they dont rate to highly i n in most reports. having said that if your game plan is mud etc then youd love em.

yea i run full simex tubes on my 36" ET2's and i run them offroad at 10 - 15 psi with no problems what so ever good sidewall flex and the simex tubes work excelent cant fault them

ive run both under my zook and the simex without a doubt! had no problems quality wise but the grip was no better than any other cheap muddy. The simex are great...they bag better, grip better and definitely ride better...only downside is noise on the road but that personally doesnt bother me....

i only have 3 left because i f&kt one at ormeau and springfield but that was on sharp rocks.the tread is very similar but only half the depth and strength and only half the price i bought them because they were better then any muddie and i didnt want to spend alot of coin after just buying the middie.now that they are gone i not sure what to do next but i think 2 pair is the way to go some good A/T 32/11.5/15 and some 36/12.5/15 irocks well thats me done

My Advice for anyone thinking about Mongrels is this:

Look at tread depth. Mongrels are half the price, but have the tread depth.

The sidewalls are the same POS muddy that the donor carcase is from. Simex have strong new casings.

a Second hand set of Simex are better than new mongrels, and about the same price. Look around,
