Rear main seal leaking

Post by kempster1 »

My rear main seal on my 94 auto pajero has just started pissing oil out.
Who has done a rear main seal on one of these?
I have never done one on a pajero, looking at the engine bay and due to the fact I have access to an overhead crane I might pull the engine out instead of the gearbox.

Yeah the manuals aren't too hard to get out! I would assume the auto's are similar. I would suggest you use a genuine Mitsy seal for a cost of around $50 - $60. I replaced mine when i did my clutch and gearbox bearings, (it wasn't leaking, just thought i'd replace it while i was in there) with an aftermarket seal from REPCO and had to pull the box out again 4 months later to do it again because the seal failed!

Hope this helps
