Are front linked suspensions no good for DD?

Post by slosh »

Years ago(b4 buggies) it seemed most of the guys on here wanted their trucks to have 4 or 5 link front suspension with 3 or 4 link rears. Well there are a few custom rear linked trucks getting around but very few with custom linked front suspension that see road use. Is it just too hard to get sensible on road handling? or too much maintenance? Not engineerable? Is there no durable alternative to the factory front leaf or coil setups?

Interesting. I thought custom 5 link fronts were relatively common (among OL members, anyway.)

I think Bitsamissin has a 5 link in the front of his Paj, fully engineered; from memory, he needed fairly stiff springs to minimise dive under brakes. :?

Jeeps come with 5 link front and rear standard and handle fine on the road.
