Old Man Emu For all you suspension needs, Drop into your nearest ARB and they will sort you out. but how are you so sure it is your shocks, you have leaf springs in the rear and although the shocks do work they don't actually do alot of work, when used in conjunction with leaf springs. What is the actual porblem you are getting????? is it lack of travel?????? boaty ride?????? have you removed the shock and tested it to see if the valving is stil good????? try some of these things before spending money, But if you are serious about it consider a complete aftermarket set up not just shocks then the benifits will really set in.

As mentioned in previous post OME want to wear a kidney belt go the others. As I explained before about bore size19ml compared to 36 for other brands. I use myn for touring towing a camper trailer and also some pretty rough shit if going out for a weekend with the other guys, have had nothing break and no headaches at the end of the day due to being jumped around. Any body that has done the cape will know what the ruts up there are like and havnt had 1 OME shock or spring fail on me yet. Where do you live ?? If close I will let you take myn for a run with OME then take my mates for a run wth big bore heavy duty shocks and see the difference. I do not have interest or connections with OME just stating what I have had and what Iv got. Im 38 and have had numerous 4wd's with different springs/shocks and since owning the lux will not run anything else. At the end of the day its your decision and money that will make your decision. Every1 to there own opinion. Regards Steve M
there is very limited travel
like doing about of a slope it feels as if the thing wants to drop any second
coming down small drop offs its like ther aint any shocks
and on road the end feels like its solid ya do abit of a swurve and u can fell the ass end trying to follow and keep going
Iam after decent travel
in the rear
the front feels fine and seems to take things nice and feels smooth
what price range would i be looking at for a decent setup
dont want anything super tricket out just want a rig that will get me further in my 4wding

They just sound like air shocks, pump them up when towing to achieve correct ride height, piff them off.4x4Monkey wrote:whent out to take a looksy and it seems there is a air hose type thing that u can hook a tyre inflator on to it
could the previous owner set them to very hard or what?

Monroe Air Shocks
Do you enjoy towing things with your trucks—boats, trailers, campers, even other trucks? Maintain a safe, level ride height on your tow vehicle by using Monroe air shocks to smooth the ride. Monroe air shocks incorporate all of the premium features found in standard Monroe gas shocks, like all-weather fluid and advanced valving. These items also help Monroe air shocks maintain their composure. But Monroe air shocks go a step further by adding a large air chamber that can inflate with as much as 150 psi even with your vehicle loaded. That translates into a stable ride height even with 1,200 pounds of additional weight on your truck. And Monroe air shocks don’t have to be used to their full capacity every time: You can add as little as 20 psi to your Monroe air shocks to compensate for a light load, or add the full amount for more than a half ton. The custom air fitting on Monroe air shocks is designed to resist leakage even at extreme pressures, and Monroe air shocks utilize a sintered iron piston for exceptionally long service life. Your Monroe air shocks come with one pair of shocks, air line, fittings, and a fill kit, so all you need to do is follow the directions and you’re ready to roll. Then you can pick up whatever you want to haul confident that your Monroe air shocks will handle the load.
sound to me like you need a whole suspension system(money permitting) Shocks arn't going to improve travel all that much or ride. definetely put OME in you will not regeret it. but first remove the shock and compress it by hand to set if the valving is still ok(the shock should return to fully open position) also measure the diffenence between full hand on your rear wheels with the shock on and then without this will tell you how much the shock is restricting wheel travel.
Cost depends on what you are after.
Set of 4 OME nitrochargers approx $550.00
Rear Leafs Approx $400.00
Steering Stabiliser approx $120.00
Greasable shackles and bushes approx $200.00
Original torsion bars are fine and can just be adjusted to suit.(take it you vechile is IFS)
Call up you local ARB to get a correct price as all listed above are completely of the top of my head and only Approx.
Fitted correctly and set up correctly the car will improve by 110%
it's worth the price both on and off the road.
but balls in you court you could always just put extended shackles and long travel shocks on the rear as is.

have you considered just having your rear leaf springs reset. also as stated above, take your shocks off and see if they are limiting your wheel travel. take the car for a short drive at slow speeds and see if it is the shocks that is causing your rough ride or that if your springs are to heavey for your setup. beware the arse end will bounce around a bit without the shocks fitted. reseting your leaves will cheaper that buying new ones. talk to decent suspebsion mob, not pedders, they are just after your money. they can discuss with you a good cheap setup for rear of your rig. you will be surprised you should be able to do the rear for less than $800 with all new gear, 0r about 500 for reset leaves and new shocks.

get some mono tubes val=ved to suit, bilstein / ulimate, PM me or email me for more info, but short and sweet you spring holds the weight of the vehicle, the shock controls the spring, the heavier the spring the lighter the dampening stroke should be as the spring is stiffer and the heavier the rebound stroke needs to be to control the higher spring rate trying to get back to ride posiion.
If you have a high spring rate then the shock that would normally suit a standard vehicle will create a varey hard ride and most likly not contol the rebound allowing the car to bounce further up

If the above post did not offend you in any way please PM me so I can try harder!!
