Great work on the updates "live in the field" - it's brilliant !

I'm following the crew of Graeme and Jeff driving "The Hulk" - A Rangie/Defender hybrid powered by a turbo-charged 4.1 ford donk. If anyone on the ground has Pic's (or general gossip) then I'd be really pleased to see them on this Forum. The boys ran a very credible 3:24 last night - not bad for a brand new rig and a crew with only 1 or 2 hours in the seats !

As I find out more I'll post it here also. By the way, I am also maintaining a thread on our Club Forum if you're interested, http://pub2.bravenet.com/forum/167428048/ - take a look.

GO THE HULK !

NZ trucks are doing well..will get more info later today. They have finished the stage last night in time...so that's good!
Kym Bolton DNF, wire came off the diesel pump.
Mani DNF, broke down.

As soon as I get the next call & pics from Team Hoon, shall post it asap!
Cheers... Bel

Thanks Joe... poor Wazza will wish he didn't take his mobile...LOL
He said the trucks going really well, they were the first truck to race last night, but unfortunately the track got much easier to drive on the more trucks raced on it...
They are at the quarry now, so he'll ring me later. Says it's freezing at night up there! The other thing is, he can't get over how many spectators there are...it's good to see! Bel ;)

Stage 2 (Prologue in the Quarry) is complete. Stage 3 is essentially the same course but on a slightly diffent line (apparently!). THE HULK ran a conservative 3:58 (DNF 5:00) - the fastest rigs ran low 3:00's.

I don't have any Official Placings to hand as yet - I'm expecting a detailed update following the completion of the reverse Quarry run. I'm fortunate enough to have access to a few spectators on the course (I'll ask 'em to keep an eye out for the Kiwi trucks when I talk to them later this arvo).

Wazza just rang.... Their team "Hoon"..finished stage 2 & 3 now... their times were 2:49 and 3:00 (doing extremely well!!)...
They are in Group B with Kiwi's Mike & Sam, Cass Jones, Kym Bolton and couple Jason & Stephanie.. I'm sure there are others.

Norm Walters DNF in both stages, both winch ropes broke and then 3rd stage snapped pinion shaft on rear diff...

Both USA trucks DNF... either diff or drive shafts broke.

Apparently the Rovers have been hurt just like the USA teams.

Kiwi's very competative and THE HULK is very fast and deffinetly up front of field.

Waiting for some pics of the Kiwi team and The Hulk.... Bel :) :D

How did James (PGS) in the Zook go (did he get going).
I got a call Sat morning after a V6 20th up piston, one in the Zook decided to call it quits. :?: :?: :?:

Guys in the zuk didn't make it. There are only 51 vehicles competing now. Norm Walters has called it quits for this year after busting a pinion and transfer case on the prolouge. He DNF'd both stages today. I got a 3.33 and a 4.49(after getting myself bogged down in the tyres at the base of the big boiler we had to winch over. Not too bad a day and I'm on my way out to Nundooka for the night brumbies run. Hopefully I won't be able to wright any more till the end of the week  :D Catch ya's

OK,

I'm sorry that I can't relay any exact details, BUT, I can convey that "The Hulk" (and crew) are currently headed for Poolamacca (Group A). Stages 2 and 3 saw a fair bit a carnage in the OS Rangie crews but our boys are still hanging in there !.

Word on the weather is that it's BLOODY COLD at the moment. SS3 (in the Quarry) saw another conservative (but consistent) run with a similar time to that attained previously.

Phone coverage is fairly limited until around Wednesday so I may not have anything significant to report for a few days. In the meantime, please keep an eye on the CQ Offroad Club forum http://pub2.bravenet.com/forum/167428048/ or the Official website http://www.outback4x4challenge.com
