Took the truck out last weekend and the compressor was running alot more than usual.
Did a quick search to find out possible reasons, as the airlines themselves appeared to be good. Then read something about if the seals are gone then air will be coming out of the diff breather.
Checked the back...ALL GOOD!
Checked the front...NOT GOOD! there is air coming from the breather. To make it certain that it was only the front casuing issues, I turned the front locker off and just had the back engaged...compressor didnt kick in once.
So, its definately the front.
How long is the warranty on these things? Mine would be about 4-5 years old now.
But I am impressed as this is the first problem I have had with them in all that time.
And another question...what are the 2 airlines that go nowhere for? pressure release or something like that maybe. Its the 2 airlines marked in the pic.
those 2 air lines r 4 when u disengage your air locks it doesn't put oil on your bonnet if there leaking
you proberly dont get the pssss sound when you dis engage your dl

are the grooves from the seals, or from poor installation of the side air housing? I have pulled apart lockers I installed with over 100,000km on them, without the faintest mark on the spigot.
correctly installed, the sealing o-rings wear flat long before there is even a hint of a mark on the housing.
newer air lockers now have a "self centering" aide air housing so this problem is allegedly fixed.
warranty is 1 year/20,000km I think.
before you go tearing it apart, take it for a bit of a drive (10km) with the hubs locked in to circulate oil around the seals and U-ring, you might find your problem goes away.

I would say the grooves are from the O rings, but this is a very early rover ARB and has had an abused life. I got it with a second hand diff that was full of mud and crap.
How much would the surface finish of the spigot have an affect on the life of the O rings? Is a super shiny finish (mirror like) the best?

it doesn't need to be polished - it needs to be slightly dull so it retains some oil.
obviously abuse that includes being filled with mud is going to have a dterimental effect!
