My first post.
I have been looking at 4x4’s for the past few months now, mainly SWB Patrol/Mavs and Hilux’s. Recently, a LWB Suzuki Sierra came to my attention. I am interested in finding out how capable they are off-road? I have read a little about them through this forum and the 4wdmonthly forum, but thought I’d start a thread myself.
It’s a 1.3L 1987 SUZUKI SIERRA TYPE 3 LWB. $3,950.
The negative comments about the vehicle are:
"requires some work for road worthy (esp diff noisey/transfer case noisey)."
I’m interested in modding it quite a bit, 33” tyres , necessary lift , barwork, etc. I’m in QLD, wondering what I can to it do and still keep it road legal.

I’m was hoping for a minimum of: 2” suspension lift, 2” body lift, 31” tyres.
I’m really interested in this Sierra, however the restrictions are making a hilux/patrol seem more tempting now.

even 31's will be well illegal mate I got half way through building a lwb zook and quit due to qld laws
I did body lift, rockhoppers, efi engine, widetracks, rear locker, winch and so forth and it was very capable
But I just couldn't live with knowing that I wasn't insured on the road.... I paid my premiums like normal but it was unroadworthy in the eyes of Qld law Most people just risk it and the stoopid government doesn't give you much choice
But it wasn't a risk I was willing to take

Since hiluxs/patrols have larger stock tyres, they can legally fit larger tyres right . Sorry for my newbie-ness (still woking it all out).the restrictions will apply to the hiluxes and patrols too. Maybe your best bet is to find out what you can and can't do with any vehicle before you buy

Yes but they have the same ruling and also the tyre to diff clearance is the different. an insurance company is going to look for any excuse possible to reduce their coverage, if there is damage to a car that should not have been on the road in the first place, they are going to use that as a reason to viod their liability Josh, come on man, whats going on?

Its not hitting another car in an unroadworthy car that you worry about, thats only money. Its hittin a pedestrian, wether its theyre fault or not, that you worry about. If you do hit a pedestrian in an unroadworthy car, and especially knowing its unroadworthy, you will be up on manslaughter charges!

So guys what is the laws in QLD.. I figure you can have 2” lift maximum including tires… So your limited to 30’s without any lift… By my understanding this would be awesome as a first 4by and it will be extremely capable with some lockers. From my brief time wheeling I have worked out a light zuk will out perform most heavier rigs.
There is heaps of other great reasons for owning a zuk.. but for every good point you will find a down fall, but that is the same for other rigs.
I say get the zuk and wheel it with minor mods.. and with any luck we will get some more uniform laws in the next year or two.

From what I gather here you can legally lift your vehicle to compensate for an increase in tyre width. I read that you cannot increase your tyre diameter by more than 50mm than the tyre that is designated by the vehicle manufacturer.

not so awesome....tyre increase in qld can only be 25mm. Height wise there is all sorts of distances measured between bump stops etc. to establish how height you can legally go. 50mm body lift is legal if approved by qld transport..but then you have to get ur car fully inspectedDeWsE wrote:So guys what is the laws in QLD..
