Install Qs re Transfer gears and bearings.
Install Qs re Transfer gears and bearings.
Just a quick question.
I started chucking in my 4.9 transfer gears this arvo and have one Q.
The kit came with all new bearings including the little tiny bearing that is inside the end of the main shaft that the front shaft sits into... I think.
How the hell do you get that little bearing out of the end of the shaft?

A proper puller has some hooks that go in and spread behing the neddle bearing grabbing it and pulling it out.
Ive pulled it out with a home made slide hammer before just find a cup head screw that fits in the bearing then push it through and hook the back of it. weld this to a slide hammer or just pput it in a vice and use the wieght of the counter shaft to pull it out

Its a wheelbase thing
I tried the slide hammer thing.... Didnt work for me.
I ended up getting a punch and sharpening it like a chisel.
I put the chamfered edge againt the baring and the other side against the edge of the hole and hammer. I did this all the way round, the cage will break up, the rollers will come out then the outer will come away too..... eventually
It was a PITA

wax will get into the bearing surface better...heat up the bearing...drop wax onto the crack...capillary action will suck it down...ausyota wrote:I tried the grease trick but it didnt work.

Pulling gears was a piece of piss.
I bought a $199 hydraulic puller set (on sale from kinchome at the moment) from work. It is cheap chinese but works great.
Also had my old mans home made press.
Yeah Motomadness should be fun. Will hopfully be twin locked as well
