JUST GO MY FIRST 4WD - A BUNDY
HI GUYS,
I have been on this board for a while but have only just got my first 4wd. its a 85 bundy petrol. its pretty rough, but as it is my 3rd car i really on want it to take me away on weekends, so not to take me to work 5 days per week.
It does needs a small amount of work to get it on the road and even more work cosmetically.
I do have a couple of questions though,
-approx how much is a VS V6 transplant cost inc. the adaptor kits?
- In old 4wd monthly mags they painted otis and milo using a spray gun. how effective is this? and does it need to be sprayed in a colour that is close to original? (ie. i want to paint mine red, and it is currently yellow)
- 33inch tyres, do they fit without any scrubbing or should i go 32'?
Your help would be great!! i will post pics as a get into it.
Cheers,
Aj
p.s once on the road, i look forward to going driving with the club members.

Nice pickup man, Bundera's are cool little trucks!
Mark's did a VP V6 conversion on his Bundy, ring and ask what it would cost.

Tyre size will depend if you have any lift.. 33" wont fit without lifting it, and even then, your gearing would be out a bit.
hutzi*RJ70*bundera has a 3" lift with 33" tyres on his with lockers.

You can use Jeep coils for a lift also.. which is a cheap way to go.. Coils FTW!

OME have to be one of the best suspension names.. You can't really go wrong with them. Is that with 2" lifted coils and new shocks?
The conversion isn't a common thing, so it'd be lucky if someone on here knows a price for it. If not, give him a call.
I'm not sure with the Bundy, but when you move to 33" you may have to look at changing diff ratios. You can always do this later on if you need to.
What size tyres are on it at the mo?
Post up some pics too mate

I don't think OME make a kit for bundys. just shop around and find some coils on the cheap to make it 2" taller, you don't need to lengthen the shocks, it won't max them out anyway. Maybe put an ad in the wanted classefieds and see if anyone has any junk springs to give you for beer.
33's will fit with the 2" lift and it will drive them ok.
for painting you can do any colour over anything, but the number of coats you need will vary. red over yellow will be pretty easy, but decide whether it's worth spending the money on - even if you do it all yourself it'll cost $500+ for a very ordinary result.
33's will fit. stick a lokka in the back and go anywhere (until it falls over)

Free air locker to the first 20 callers!
hey jigga, I've got 34x10.5" JT's on my Bundy and there's only light scrub marks on the inside of the rear wheel wells from when it's been flexed.- 33inch tyres, do they fit without any scrubbing or should i go 32'?
Mind you it's spring lifted about 1-2" (pedders) and I havn't actually driven it yet as I bought it without a motor, like you it's a bit of a spare time project.
All the best with ur new toy mate!

Welcome to Bundy ownership!
Dont go a VS motor as the wiring and computer is a bit more of a hassle to do (well I think so!)
I used a VP motor. Cost about $4K in parts. (basically a half cut including pollution gear and fuel pump, exhaust, brand new manual starter motor and flywheel, and all new bits from marks...adaptors-g/box, engine mounts- clutch, sump.)Labour costs were several cartons.
Very pleased with the performance that it gives!
As for 33s, I get slight rubbing, at full flex on rail, but mainly due to the side wall treadblocks on my particular tyre. The truck is not lifted. And the V6 drives them very well.

As for painting. I thought that if you did it yourself and you used roof paint it would be cheaper than that. ALthough, yes i know if would have an ordinary finish.
What length springs should i get. someone on here got 50mm lifted wrangler springs? what would they be like? i would like to get shocks to improve the ride a bit though, what brands would be good for this car?
thanks for your help!
