I've done a search and can't find the info I'm looking for. I'm in need of an auxillary fuel tank for my mav. It seems that the most popular option for increasing touring range is a replacement tank. I'm not so keen on this as I don't like having all the fuel stored in one place. So anyway, does anyone know what the quality of 4wdsystems auxillary tanks are like?

not 4wd systems. ask around and any1 who has had any sort of drama with 4wd systems will happily agree with my statement.
My long range tank was okay after i remade the front tank bracket and welded up a hole and then boought the right fittings as the ones it came with were wrong. Huge ass hassle from them and then there was the 3 months waiting after they said delivered to my door in 2 weeks. I Cant read the hand written tax invoice.
Apparently my tank mounts are different to any Mk patrol made.

Another option is to go around a few pick n pull wreakers and stick ya head under a few different 4wd's. One here had a sweet little auxillary tank under a dual fuel lwb.

A BIG lesson i learnt from racing pushbikes is not to Fit/adjusrt anything a couple days before a race,etc. If you factor this in relativity to a 4wd adventure it will make it a more hassle free journey. Just say they dont tighten the bolts up or a clamp,etc properly and you overlook checking and rechecking that all is tight, Half way across the simpsonthe tank kisses the dirt.BigMav wrote:Ended up with an LRA tank. I have a Long ranger 60-70 litre tank in my 96 GQ, but it is used for water, not diesel, same tank and location, mine is stainless though.BigMav wrote: i'll be rechecking all the mounting points you can count on that.
On my last big trip, the tank rubbed through both the brake line and the fuel line, as when it is fitted there is only about 20mm between the drivers side chassis rail and the tank.
The mounts have a little bit of play in their locationg holes, make sure nothing touches or can rub as the steel brake and diesel lines are very close to the tank. Where they rubbed through was the front (engine end) drivers side corner.
I would have to add that was my third trip accross the simpson, and this time around, I spent 10 days in the dessert, so it may take a while to develop.
The tank has been in the car since new, and this happened 9 years on.
I have also had the tank repaired 3 times as chassis flex seems to cause the seams to start to weep.
BTW a French Line (Most common) trek should take 70-90 litres in a 4.2 GQ diesel, non turbo, 90-110 in a turbo if you go directly from Mt Dare Station or OOdnadatta to Birdsvile or 10 litres more if you travel in the other direction
05 Patrol ST-S 4.2 Tdi with some stuff.
