Hi Guys & Gals - Just got a quick update from Jeff in "The Hulk" - a bit sketchy but here goes. They completed 3 stages today, the 1st was a GPS run and Hulk was well under DNF time !! 2 Winch stages, the 1st - "Hulk" did "OK" but picked up a winching penalty cos Jeff tripped and stepped over the winch cable (DOH!!) and the second they did well under DNF time - sub 10mins - so the boys are pretty happy with themselves. Apparently 4-5 winches blew up/broke ?? in their group (B) today - don't know how bad or any other details. Will ring the boys again tonight and get some more details. This was just a quick phone call for all those "aching" for info !! Bel - Jeff thinks GQHOON had some mechanical issues today but not sure how bad or what they were. They're heading back to Broken Hill now and should be in phone range so you'll get to hear all about it later. No other news for the mo'. Catch you later. Fabulous photos by the way!! We all appreciate any snippet that comes in too.

spoke to krimnl before

his clutch is fcuked... so they dnf sand wall but still able to do shifting sands so dont how bad it is but i know they are going into silver city tonight for a replacement.

They did well last night they were the only team to drive the mud have heard that mani is still running and i guess the people with the PTO winch's will be doing well in the mud as he commented how deep it was and thats what hes put down for the clutch going.

Apparently Group B had quite a few winch failures today on the Warn Hi Mount and Low Mount stages - about 4 or 5 in total, including the Kiwi cruiser which now has a PTO winch which is FUBAR ! However, in the true spirit of mateship and cooperation which exists amongst many of us in the 4wd fraternity, I am reliably informed that one of the spectator guides has offered them his Hi Mount to keep them in the action - GREAT WORK !

Team Hoon were reported to be a little off the pace in the Nav events but KICK ARSE in all others. Cass Jones and Kim Bolton are rumuored to be front runners in this Group.

Not good news for the Yanks in the Black Disco I'm afraid. They are believed to be out of the event following major component failure. Full credit to them for making the effort to get there and give it a go !

With the whole spectator fleet due back at their central camp site tonight to swap stories there should be quite a bit of info being fed onto our forum tomorrow - here's hoping !

I spoke to Alan Cuthill earlier, he sais the water was up to his nipples inside the car! 50m+ of winching through this, very tough. The night mud stage was extremely hard with one group having no one even attempt it.
He has done well in the sand and was racing coop's and hummer on the gunbarrell and won by 4 seconds.
And was the quickest on the night sand motorkana by 10 sec's.

OK Mrs GQHOON ...

Here's what I know. Apparently the 1st event today (a Nav Run) was used to determine the starting order of the subsequent stages. One of our Spec's commented that Team Hoon were amongst the last of the vehicles to start the Warn Winch events - therefore they must have performed below par in the Nav Run (I think !). The good news is that they were seen to start at least one of the Warn stages - they may have done both - I can't confirm. When I was talking to Jeff (in The Hulk) VERY briefly late this arvo, he commented that he understood Team Hoon had encountered a mechanical problem - no further detail than that.

Can't recall any more than that Mrs. GQHOON - sorry ! Please let us all know what transpires.

BTW, I think that all teams are currently headed for Broken Hill at the moment for events based there (or nearby) tomorrow.

THANKYOU VERY MUCH!!!
I feel for those having mechanical trouble. Putting in so much time, effort & $$$$$$ and excitement of going, It would be a big let down.
But everyone who is there giving it a go deserves to be congratulated.. Takes some guttsss..

Bill and Wally are definately out. Motor let go Saturday night, 1st stage.
Alan and Caro towed them back to Broken Hill.
Something major in the bottom end, big knocking sound.
Rumours are a piston & rod let go. Someone will know more details.

Hey guys, just getting a bite to eat while my windscreen is getting replaced. We had a little lie down today in one of the short Poolamica stages. Still going strong though. It was just a safety thing to replace the windscreen. There should be pics of me on here soon. There were a lot of people taking photo's. Hulk is doing well. Bruce in the lime green rangie pushed his fan through the radiator yesterday but has replaced the fan and repaired the radiator. Cass and Kym are both doing really well. Terrence the South African is going great, he hasn't DNF'd anything and is now the only one in our group that hasn't. Nick Mannell is going well and we haven't really had any major breakages yet. That's a feat in itself having done both Nundooka and Poolamica. We are out to Denian tonight and then Viewmont for the mud on Friday. Thanks for all the support guys and I'll let the other guys know as well  :D
