More GQ help!
Im in slight bind,
im looking at two GQ's one is a manual diesel with almost 300k on her well maintained looks good minor lift and snorkel, or do I go an Auto petrol one with the same goodies but only 220k on her. I would have to put it on LPG excluding this they are relatively close in price, the diesel is a little older by a year or two. Both have 33's
All im looking for is the cheapest to run, most of the week is a 20 mins each way commute to work
Tim
edited for spelling/grammar so people can read it

Re: More GQ help!
If they are at all close in price the manual diesel would be a much better purchase imho.wrksux wrote:im in slight bind,

Mate, it would be a lot easier to read if you actually checked your spelling, punctuation and constructed sentences.wrksux wrote:im in slight bind,

choices
If the petrol has over 200K i'll bet my arse it needs a cylinder head and gearbox shortly, its a shame coz the rest of the mechanical components are bloody robust. If its had either of these recently its probly worth considering, mind too that you will struggle to get gas fitted B4 christmas with the current backlog of poeple doing anything to not pay current fuel prices.
My last 12 months with a petrol Shorty have cost me
G/box $3500
Radiator $800
Cylinder head $2500
And its been my old mans since new, pampered and servieced by nissan bla bla but everything seemed to shit itself at about 250 000.
My advice is whatever you buy get a comprehensive inspection it will be worth it.

GU TB45 tractor
It's a hard one, they sound real close from cost point of view both purchase and in the future. You will probably become more attached to the diesels for some reason most seem to.
A couple of things that could sway me on either is any evidence of overheating in the past and if one or the other runs a high flow air filter, both of these problems will cost you earlier and/or more, sooner or later compared to if they never existed.
Cheers fnq

Two totally different vehicles IMO
Go to Rankin diesel, or any diesel specialist and get a compression test done.
Diesel rebuilds cost a fortune
If all ok, diesel manual, non turbo patrols quite often will do 500-600 k's reliably, The same can't be said for Petrol autos
Also get it checked by a specialist four wheel drive mechanic.
A couple of hundred spent before could save you thousands later
