Vehicle checks before touring - have I missed anything?

Post by grazza »

Hi all,
About to head up the Cape (July) for the first time and I have been writing down some vehicle checks. I am expecting a lot of corrugated roads and washouts and its pretty loaded up.
I am getting all the fluids and lubing done and have listed some checks that I think need doing - have I missed anything?

I have a different engine, gearbox mounts & fuel tank

* - Engine mounts - inspect & tighten
* - Seat mounts
* - Gearbox mounts
* - Exhaust mounts
* - Polyairs correct pressure
* - Body lift blocks
* - Spare wheel mounting
* - Bullbar bolts
* - Rear bar bolts
* - Wheel nuts & tyre pressures

thanks
Grazza

suspension related damage is most common,
followed by tyre damage in that area.

check all bushes and components, maybe replace them

If you take the old route, with many, many water crossings, you would be wise to grease your unis regularly on the way. Enough oil for a full change, in case you sink it too deep, could be wise.
