Anyone heard of any of the 4.8's using coolant in any way shape or form?

I've done 45K, no problems this far.

Exactly how much water is it using?

Earlier this year, I did a trip to Beachport, and driving 100km + on soft sand, in mainly high4 and 30%low 4, used lots of coolant. It needed a couple of litres.

I didn't have any over heating problems, but the usual pre-driving check the next day alerted me to the problem.

Since then, I haven't had a problem.

Have you recently done a trip requiring low4 for an extended period of time ??? at speed ???

Its only done 38,000. Started after a trip to the sa coast last year bout easter time, gave it a little when we mucked around a bit, but thats bout it, started at about 1 cup of water for 600km of country driving, and nothing around town. Checked the plugs, no signs, oil is fine, did a pressure test, no signs, no obvious external leaks - had me lost.

Anyways, finally dropped it off at nissan, they wanted to take the head off, i wanted to aviod this - did want some dick fingers apprentice screwing me car.

Anyways, they replaced the water pump, got it back the other week, still used water, not as bad it seemed. Dropped it off again tuesday, they took the head off and had it pressure tested - cracked around a head bolt, coolant entered and evaporated. No heads in aus, gotta come from overseas, now we play the waiting game.

Cheers for your replys

:? :?

I hope mine has not suffered the same fate.

Due for a service next month.....I might have to mention it (and ask if they have spare heads in the country yet)

Do they know what caused it? Manufacturing fault, previously overheated or any other issue?

Did they give any feedback?
