Auto/Petrol GU Ti

Post by currentlyoffline »

G'day, a mate has a ti which is a problem offroad descending hills.
We thought a set a rock crawler gears might stop it from running away ( he is always on the brakes ) but any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Start using both feet and drive through the brakes
should be able to go down much slower and more controlled than most manuals

Basic driver training should cover this

85% Gearmasters or 81% Rockhoppers. Huge improvement for Auto Patrols, and you can descend very steep hills totally brake free.

See this link for details.

From what I can gather they cost approx $1250 to buy....
What would it cost to have them installed ?

cost me $1700 installed marks %85 reduction and with 35's it can decend now with no brakes , but obviously depends how steep your talking , i was told that by pressing the hold button when in 1st low it will also assist in the engine braking ? i will find out this weekend for sure !
apart from that or changing your r/p you could stick some 27" tyres on :D
if its worth doing do it intensly , better still do it with MADPASSION

set your limits way beyond your abilities

I have the 85% reduction gears fitted in my patrol. It's an auto and i'm running 37s and they are brillant. I paid about $1700 fitted also.

Cheers Mick.

This GU has stock suspension, rims etc, just with a few accessories.
Really only used for towing a trailer full of KTM's up the bush, exploring the Vic High Country and a few firewood trips.
His wife does most of the driving during the week, he has got a ute, and they both are really happy with the Ti on road but after coming from an 80 series diesel/manual with a 4 inch lift, neither of them felt very safe descending hills.
They don't want to swap it for an ST/manual and just want better hill descent control.
All the rest of our group of friends have got GQ/GU's and all diesel manuals, with far greater control descending hills.
