Just wondering if people are heading that way!

It would seriously change the comp seen if more people are heading that way

or it may just be that only the buggies are mounting rear steer??

I know there are 4 or 5 tuff trucks out there that have it.

I can't run this for my truck in Challenge Class but I'm curious. I've only seen a setup like a front diff. Has anyone used an "A" frame with an extra pivot point on the diff and have both lower control arms as hydrolic rams or setup as steering arms and have the whole diff swivel instead of just the hubs?

This might work, but you would run into dramas with driveshaft uni's binding up, esp is the suspension had good articulation too. The longevity of the rams would be pretty suspect too, as they would be getting stressed from angles that they mightn't be designed for.

you could have a single hydrolic ram up in the chassis and use the lower control arms to steer the diff. You wouldn't need to turn the rear diff to get a benefit out of it. The biggest problem that I see is that you are trying to turn a much larger wieght rather than just turning wheels. I don't think it would be a better system but it is food for thought.....and I'm bored.

Not sure of a cost. There is alot in it!

strong swivels
strong diff
strong CV's and axles
hydraulic pack
steering ram
steering controls(in cab)
guard mods
chassis mods( to help steer more than 5 deg)

How far do you want to go!!!

I looked at putting in a standard 80 series steer knuckel in but the strenght was not upto 100:1 reduction and i still had to get most of it custom made.

The combination that i have gone for is a GU rear diff housing with a HP GU front center and custom dobbin steer knuckels and 80 series rotor and hub.

Maxi-Drive has a had a rear-steer kit for Rovers for years (no reason it cannot be fitted to other vehicles). Uses custom swivel balls (inner knuckles), Land Rover Series 3 outer swivels/knuckles, and FC101 CV joints - these are huge with 1.47" 21 spline stub and inner. This setup is usually fitted to a salisbury/D60 diff, and has a lockout so it will only work in low range, and is locked in place with a pin on-road. AFAIK the system has been approved for road use in OZ.

What CV/uni does your setup use professor?

I am interested in rear steer, but if I go down this road I will probably build my own setup (or buy the knuckles and build the rest).

Yeah, pretty expensive, but when I spoke to Mal about it he was willing to sell just the 4340 chrome balls for about $2-3K a pair. The rest is pretty easy to make or source yourself (except for the axle shafts).
