oil pressure guage???

Post by Wotto »

can anyone tell me how the oil pressure guage works on the efi gq? i dunno if the senders stuffed, but some days it sits close to 1/2 and others on 1/4. this is doing 60 in 4th gear. where is the needle supposed to be? and how do you tell if there is a problem?

Thanks

There are 2 oil pressure senders. there is one for the guage. and one for a low pressure oil light.

if your low pressire oil light isnt coming on then you havent got issues.

mine usually sits at about 1/4 on the guage and has done since i have owned it without any problems what so ever. it sits at 1/4 regardles of the speed im doing as well.

the only time its higher then that is if the motor is cold and the oil is thick and cold. as soon as the oil warms up and gets thinner whlie running the oil pressure drops off abit......

this should be what yours does.... which is normal.

nissan oil pressure senders are dicky as. When i bought my gq shorty i had the same prob, sometimes it wouldn't work at all and then when it did it sat on 2, it took me nearly 18 months but i replaced it with a new oil pressure sender (which you will find hanging out of the block just in front of the oil filter, its the one with the rubber boot with the wire coming out of it) that cost about $100 from nissan if yours is an early gq then you will have the sender without a breather makke sure you get a new one with breather otherwise the sender will play up after being in deep water. Its simply a matter of unplugging and then unscrewing the sender witha spannner and then screwing the new one in i put some teflon tape on the thread. After replacing my gauge sits on or just above 4 when at operating temp and just below six at cold start. Be warned thought you will prob only get a few years before it starts playing up again but $100 bucks is cheap insurance if you ask me. Any other questions dont hesitate to ask.
