Safari Snorkels

We are looking at purchasing a cheap Safari Snorkel of Trademe, it is for the 3Ltr NH models. My question is what part number have the guys with these snorkels (Safari brand) used with the 3.5Ltr and also if the one for the 3Ltr will suffice? Thanks for any input.

The Safari part no is SS25HF.

They don't actually do one for the Gen 2 3.5 V6 but make one for the Gen 3 3.5 V6. I guess the 3.0 snorkel itself can be used as the guards are the same but the joining piece to the air filter box is different.
Airtech make a snorkel specifically for the Gen 2 3.5 V6 and their the only ones I've seen on these models.

Thanks for that, I already had a look at the Safari site and they do not list for the 3.5 and a qouted price from Fully Equipped for a Airtek snorkel was $540. Was hoping that a model was out there that I couldn't find on the net for Safari. So the one for $185 on Trademe for the 3Ltr seemed a good deal. Can always make it fit the air intake!!!! Cheers

Overkill, I have just put a ss25HF one on my 3.5 Pajero and it fitted straight up. The one that BJ auto's are selling on trade me is different to the proper one, you need an adapter from the airbox to snorkel that is not shown in the picture, and we don't need that tube.

i know this might sound like too much work, but you could make it/ i made a cheap one for mine it cost from memory round $175 and its water proof and dosent look to bad at all. you will save heaps of money (many cartons of xxxx) and it good fun working on the car

Im getting some ss steel tubing bent up, I will weld some brackets onto it and ill buy the air ram off ebay. Too easy!

some of the pics are missing, but i think from the ones that are left you can get the idea, if you want more just ask. didnt cost much, under $100 all up, mild steel exhaust pipe 3", air duct hose, small brass pipe bracket things, silicone, paint, drill, and thats about it, nuthing too hard about modding. it stalls when the tops blocked and picks up heaps cleaner air, of course stainless would look shi7loads better, theres heaps of threads bout stainless ones, have a look

Is the body that BJ auto's selling the same as the one you have put on? I don't mind making up an adapter if the snorkel is only going to cost me less than half retail. Thanks for your info.

I can't tell from the pic's but i did buy one off trade me a while back which was advertisied incorrectly (SS600HF) and returned it. It wouldn't fit as well as the Pajero one which fits the line along the guard above the flare and curves around the A pillar. Not saying it won't fit thou. Good luck.

Did you order online or purchase from a shop and have it delivered, if you could let us know because that is cheaper than what I have been quoted up here. I like the look of the safari snorkel so will go with one of those on the beast. Don't really want to buy one that just, "does not quite fit"! Cheers

Sorry, just checked invoice - it was $597. Through our 4WD club but it came from Peter Munro commercials in chch, Have you tried going straight to the ARB dealer? If you are a member of a club tell them, I know the chch guys do a 10% discount.

I had it delivered to the car yard in Gore I ordered it through (club member's yard) and picked it up from there. And yes it does fit very nicely. I did however redrill one of the bolt holes in the inner guard where the alloy part attaches to as it was slightly too low - that may be the difference between the 3.0 & 3.5.

Got the Safari Snorkel that was recommended (Cheers NJV6) and it does fit the 3.5 perfect. Very easy install, only took about 1.5hrs work time and 12hrs dry time for the paint. Took it for a blast and I do believe I now have slightly more perfomance, NICE , or a least I want to believe that.

Yep, I was going to use xxxx cans to make my snorkel too!

Overkill - Does it stall when you put your hand over the top? I have found that where the airbox goes against the inside panel the seal is not perfect, I am going to get a flange thingie made it for mine.

I believe in LOTS of silicone in the right places without obstructing the pipe, I went out and gave her the hand test.....
She stalled!
I havn't been bashing around yet to loosen it all up, so might try it again in a couple of weeks.

OK thats good. Means mine isn't quite sealed up properly cos it just drops about 150 rpm at idle.

NJ, does it drop 150rpm with your hand on the top of the snorkel at idle? If so, I used a truck load of silicone around the airbox and guard (took the airbox out and applied heaps, then put back in) and also a layer on the foam which goes between the guard and cast iron piece. Give it a try!
