Old 8274 Warn Question

Hello all,

looking at an older type 8274.

Is there any reason I should steer clear of it.

I only really want the winch on the front just in case a need to pull myself out so not overly concerned about speed etc. The bar I have is for a highmount and I don't want to spend the earth.

Are these a good winch and what should it cost to get it serviced?

i have an 8274 winch...

LOVE IT.

Best winch for me, i too was a wee bit worried when i purchased mine. As a lot of my freinds had the 10000lb low mount ones. Since i have had time to use mine compared with others i now know i made the right choice, i prefer the 8274.

Lots of good mods to do it to make it even better!!

Mines an oldie that I picked up cheapo from the Trading Post.....Had it serviced and she runs just fine....NFI how much it cost now...
Anyways these things last danged near forever - so I say get it checkedout then go for it....

i picked up second hand 8274 (part number is actually 8403) for around $800, cost $100 to service at local arb.

definately worth it,got me out of trouble everytime i use it

the 8274 is a really good, fast and powerful winch.

Winch competitors first choice for the most part. The older ones are a little less HP but very good for mild work!
hands and mums dont count!!!

and if power/speed ever becomes an issue for you, the newer warn motors can be more or less bolted on. if you have the space, it is the winch to have.
