Front driveline noises

Post by ferrit »

LN106 hilux 2.8D

Got a rumble in the front end when in 4wd @ 1000-1200rpm.... sounds metalic...

Only occurs in 4th gear, used to occur in 3rd till i pulled the shaft off and cleaned the spline and Cardin joint out today.

What i know is:

No movement in front diff pinion in any direction
No movement in output shaft on transfer case
Spline on rear shaft is worn
Front universal joint on the front shaft is dodgy in one axis.

Would the uni be causing this vibration? its getting so bad it feels like its about to throw the shaft out of the car at 1100rpm.

And are the unis on the front shafts of hilux's replaceable? i dont want to have to fork out the cost of the whole shaft
