cable actuated transfer case shifter (sanity check)

I have a space restriction for my transfer case shifter and while there is a number of ways to solve this I have seen a few US based cable shifters and wanted to sanity check an idea

Now I dont really "need" twin stick although my Dana 300 is cable of it so I was looking at these and thinking "what if?"

1. get a auto shifter from an old commodore flacon or what ever
2. grind the detents from the shifter
3. use a quality shifter cable like a B&M
4. fab a bracket to hold the cable to the transfer case

so is this a hair brain idea or do you think the effort could be worth it as a cheap way out for a low profile shifter the clearence problem is between the shifter rails and the tub floor

looking at doing something like

but instead of that center support use the ears on top to hold the bracket and use the stock plate that joins the 2 shift rails

anyway open to critism suggestions ideas etc

ive thought of doing the same thing when i do my twin cases, so i guess that makes hairbrains :lol:

What about a small pneumatic actuator, if you have compressed air on board... ie, a piston driven by compressed air. Or even a strong electrical solenoid.

Just an idea.

Or, depending on exactly what your clearance problem is, a solid linkage setup might be more reliable and easier to design than a cable setup.

Some mitsi galants use cables to operate the gearbox. Friend used one cable to make a freespool control on the winch so I can't see doing it fr a transfercase is going to be too difficult.
