GQ TD42 with Turbo.
Well something odd happened today..
Drove out of the Nissan dealer, round the corner and the car just died in the ass... Like it ran out of fuel, so I pulled over, and threw it in to neutral, and revved it and it was fine! Like nothing wrong.
Looked at fuel guage, and it was above the MT line, its been below the MT line before and had no problems.
Now, I cruised to the servo and put 120ltrs (@88cpl wasnt bad) in the 147ltr tank...
Now its as flat as a tack, dead as the wife in bed, no power what so ever. When you put your slipper into it, all it wants to do is Kick down to go... When your between 2500-3000rpm, it seems to starve...
Anyone else come across this and how the fu*#&$$ did you fix it?
$^%$ken CARS..
Sounds like a pick up problem, but what can go wrong with them?? Could it be injectors? Not sure if its an air leak in the system maybe...???
I have a new fuel filter to put on tomorrow to see whats in the old one, but the one on there is tighter than a mozzies bum...

mav wrote:how long since the last fuel filter change? whats the air filter/intake pipe like, on the mav i changed to a filter housing that has a replacable cartrigde filter (about $6 a filter) and a pump on top with a glass bowl on the bottom (great to see any water or dirt accumulating).
You mean a CAV filter setup?
Im thinkin of it, $100 outlay to start, but the std filter was $25!
And you can replace all parts.
close but not quiet what i have, on mine it doesnt have the adaptor on top it has a pump like the standard nissan filter head and bolts to the same engine bay bracket cost about $80 from a local truck parts supplier and uses the same type of filter (not lucas brand though) hdf296 part no. on the filter

Result..
Well just changed old filter, and 21 layers of skin off my knuckle.
The old filter has HEAPS of shit and the thing on the bottom that warns you of water, had sludge on it??
Of course as I went to pour the diesel out of filter into old milk container to properly check it, a chunk of dirt fell in, so cant say for sure what was in the filter....
Will cut filter in 1/2 later and take some pics.
Thanks for help people anyway.

Nope was doing the same today on way home from Heyfield, although the tank was low, the sender was checked out by shop on Friday...
where to now etc

get ur tappits checked .....
Yea did a bottle of that shat this weekend. Problems occur with the starving when 1/4 tank or less, and the no power is there on hills, it is flatter than Jackie Chans face.
To tell you how bad it is, I got blown off savagely by a T3500 mazda truck, with a load of 8fx2ft round trees on it. It left me behind.
The Starving problem feels like when an auto goes to change gear, just balks that little bit but mainly happens when tank is low. And making sure my foot isnt moving, the accell is just even, and it still balks... :(
I had the fuel pickup checked on Friday at the shop, and they blew out the lines, and got a lot of crap out of them... and 'should be right mate'...
Im thinking of an Air leak maybe somewhere in the system...??
etc etc

Have you put in injector cleaner recently ie before you had the low power problem?
Here's the low down on so called 'injector cleaner'...
A lot of chemical injector cleaners suspend water droplets in the fuel (water in the tank). Th injector pump uses the fuel as both a lubricant and a coolant. The pump uses fine tolerances during operation. When water is drawn through the pump the water droplets displace the fuel as a lubricant and metal contacts metal, creating wear in the pump. This is expensive to fix! Forget about how good the fuel filter is at separating the fuel from the water, the fuel additive acts like a detergent and suspends the water into the fuel. IMO don't use fuel injector cleaner in a diesel. Change your filters religiously, drain the water trap weekly, flush out your fuel tank, service your injectors every 100,000.
Change all your rubber hoses over to reinforced clear hose (fuel safe - get it from your local diesel repair shop) so you can see the fuel (and air if present).

fuel tank is dirty
i would suggest pulling your tank out and cleaning it out with a steam cleaner and the blowing out all of your fuel lines and changing your fuel filter again at the same time. it sounds like you have a lot of dirt in the bottom of your tank and when the level gets down to lower levels the dirt gets stired up by the fuel sloshing around in the bottom of the tank, you should also check the connections on all of your supply and return fuel lines as the workshop could have been a bit over zelouos with the air pressure when blowing out your fuel lines.

UMMMMM can we have PIC's of the chick next door ?????? plz plz plz
One I had a few months ago and is probably not related to your problem, but what the hell it might be another place to look for a soloution,...the vehicle did similar things to what you have said and it turned out to be........wait for it !....... a blocked air breather to the tank, took ages to find it but was soooooooo simple to fix (30 seconds!!! ) might be worth a look !!!

Trust me Im open to any fuckin suggestions.
Thought i was onto it the other day, I took the sender out of the diesel tank and it was different to the one in the LRT, so I swapped them masturbated furiously thinkin it was fixed, but then took for test run and Bzzzzzzzzz...
Put $50 diesel in the car and its fine again.. its only when its 1/4 - 1/8th of a tank the problem occurs.
God of Magnificant Ideas!
Like I said, its worth a look if nothing else. The one I had here was doing exactaly the same thing you have described. Only way I found it was when I opened the fuel cap I heard a faint rush of air. It did it worst of all when the tank was less than 1/2 full.... it seemed to cure itself when I was forced to stop on the side of the road for more than 10 mins.... then I'd get maybe 10k's down the road and the same thing would happen..., get out swear n curse check everything ....give up hit the key and way she'd go again.... drove me nuts !!!!
good hunting
