2 antenna, 1 Radio, possible?

Hi all,
Was just wondering wether it's possible to run 2 antenna to a selector switch then to my UHF cb (tX-3400), 1 high gain (9db) for when I go outback and one 4.5dB for my round town and local bush trips.
I've heard of these selector switches used on home base stations but not in vehicles.

Yes, it is possible. They are available at Jaycar or Dick smith.

Most peeps I know have two arials and just screw the one they want on to the base as they need to

Yeah, I suppose it is done a bit, I plug in from the unit side of the coax (not antenna) The reason I do this is because I already have 3 antennas and didnt want to add another one to my truck. I have a GME TX6200 as a hand held, which has a scanning function which I only use every now and again. I have installed an antenna with a wide frequency range so to pick up 477mhz and above for scanning but still get to untilize it for my UHF most of the time.

whilst switches are"OK"..... at UHF losses impeadance mismatch's SWR could be a problem.... Best to change the antenna manually...
The quality of the DSE and Jaycar RF switches and most likely not suited for UHF....

There is no need to run 2 aerials.
from memory GME have a system so a 4.5db stainless whip can be attatched to the existing base system that the 9db broomstick aerial uses.
If you have a look at the bottom of the broomstick (9db) you should be able to get a 4.5db with this fitting on the bottom.
If you want to go this way, and have trouble finding one, PM me and I will price one custom made ( not very expensive, all of mine are custom )
I looked into this same thing a few years ago, and decided against it as UHF is generally only car to car, for longer distances, I just use hf, and leave the 4.5 on, but thats just me, I had to make some compromises, I have 5 aerials when I go away

They are an awesome antenna, ground plane independant too. This means it does not need to be attached to metal for it to work.

The bad thing is because of the large grippy black bit on the bottom they are easily stolen because you can unscrew them by hand very easily. I drilled and tapped the metal under the black bit and fitted a 3mm pointed grub screw with an allen head to stop the theiving bastards.

I think 2 aerials may have been easier.. but this ariel does not screw onto the standard 5/16 (small) or 7/8 (large) threaded base.

I have one on my patrol, On my Zook I have a little stainless wire whip.
